What the hell…

…was that performance?

I’ve just watched the Donny game with a Rovers supporting mate and I’m gobsmacked by what I’ve just witnessed. My mate (who’s a lapsed season ticket holder at Rovers) left the room and refused to watch any more 5 mins into the second half. Im genuinely sad to see Donny struggling as my Grandad was from Donny and was a huge Rovers fan so I’ve always had a soft spot for Rovers. I remember you being one of the very best footballing sides outside the premier league a few years ago but that performance tonight has to go down as absolutely dreadful.

I know that fans from other clubs are probably the last thing you need right now but I genuinely hope that Rovers somehow get through this and get back to being a Championship club again. Based on tonight’s performance you’re going to need a completely new team, and probably manager too to have any chance of that.

All the best to you

It's OK, Stocksbridge were use to that type of performance now, it's the norm.

Any football fan in the football league watching that tonight would not be able to believe what they have just watched , it’s got to be one of the worst team performances and effort by any professional football side this season

Dunno. It was utterly crap, don't get me wrong, but probably doesn't even make it into the lower quartile of performances over the last two seasons.

That was the worst I've witnessed in the last 2 seasons. They just did not look bothered about their disgraceful performances, not one, not one player was bollocking other players or pushing each other on. It was devoid of any passion, hard work, commitment! They were a disgrace to our club, how anyone can accept that performance is deluded!

It isn't acceptable, it was absolute crap. But it shows how bad things have been when, in my opinion, there have been a number of worse performances than that over the last 2 years;
  • King's Lynn FA Cup at home
  • Hartlepool home and away
  • Harrogate at home
  • Carlisle away
  • Mansfield 1-4 away
  • Ipswich 0-6 away
  • Rotherham 0-5 and 0-6 at home
  • Rotherham away against 10 men
  • Accrington away
  • Fleetwood at home
  • Morecambe away capitulation
  • Wigan 1-4 at home
  • Peterborough 1-4 at home against their reserves
All of those arguably worse than tonight's shambles. And there are probably others that I forget.

I honestly, in my opinion, don't think they were. They were all bad and probably on a par but tonight was just so flat and there seemed to be an acceptance that no one cared how bad the performance was. There was no passion, aggression, embarrassment and it felt like that somehow this was now the norm where previously there was a hope that there maybe a reaction.
I dunno how to explain it, but it just felt like the players no longer cared what performance they put in.

What’s striking about that list is that with very few exceptions, they are all clubs without the resources we have and clubs that all being equal, would be seen by most observers as ‘smaller’ clubs. We are not fighting the Championship giants here. We are losing and playing dreadfully against the smallest sides in the professional game. And also King’s Lynn!
