McCann Contract

https://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/sport/football/doncaster-rovers-due-considerable-compensation-should-grant-mccann-be-poached-as-more-contract-details-emerge-4184542

The facts which are revealed in the above article came from a meeting in May of the Shadow Board which happened a month ago. It seems that the information came from the Minutes which were recently published. I wonder why this and whatever else was discussed has taken so long to emerge. Why too is there no report on here or indeed regular reports directly from the fans’ reps who are members of the Shadow Board?

Is it perhaps that the “other side” have imposed an embargo on the release of information until the Minutes are agreed? Whether this is so or not, surely the point of the Shadow Board is to discuss current and sometimes urgent issues which affect the supporters. Consequently if that objective is to be be served, there should be immediate report-back to the fans, their constituency. If proper involvement of the fan-base (which is the fundamental purpose of the SB concept) is the be achieved, there should surely be a continuous contemporaneous flow of information.

And that’s more important than the club looking to tie down a decent manager, but ensuring a decent pay off if he’s ever head hunted again.?

As the chair of the SB, I can explain this.
As for anyone who attends any meetings on a fairly regular basis, this happens….
Before you fully commence the following meeting, you agree the contents of the previous meeting are true & accurate.
Hence the slight delay.
ACTUALLY we’ve worked WITH the club to ensure these minutes are brought out as soon as possible.
As soon as the minutes are presented we give members of the SB a few days to respond, as they ALL do this voluntarily & have lives to live as well.
The minutes have ALWAYS been available on the clubs website.
I hope that clarifies.

I suppose that sometimes things under discussion are not of immediate importance and I accept that fans’ views would have no bearing on how the club handles contract negotiations.

I am a long-distance fan and my only contribution to club funds is via iFollow and the very occasional home match, so when there is a situation where supporters can exert an influence, they will rightly act in the interests of the majority.

What is still not clear to me is how the SB can ensure that they do fully understand and represent that majority. For example, if the Agenda is published would it be possible to put up a reminder here. That would provide an opportunity for people to express their views.

I wonder too whether when “hot topics” come up at Meetings the outcomes of discussions might be put out on the forum straight away - informally - the point being that a huge amount of speculation often surrounds big events and simple revelation of the facts and decisions made would be beneficial to all.

I am very familiar with proceedings at meetings and I do not think that there would be any legal problem in giving news of important decisions as soon as they have been made. If necessary,  the information could be qualified as being informal, but the underlying objective of Fan Involvement is surely best achieved by keeping fans right up to date with what is going on.  You could say that full engagement is by its nature immediate.

I wasn't shocked by the SB Minutes mentionning GM's contract.
Pretty sure it was announced before that it wasnt the typical contract, and we would be handsomely rewarded should the same poaching happen again going forward.

The agenda is normally finalised on the final evening prior to the meeting. We fully accept that “ events happen” late on. The AOB was taking up too much time & so we insisted on agenda items being sent in a timely manner. We’ve improved & im proud of that. All sensible ideas are welcome.

Why is it that certain posters always seem to feel the need to criticise or make a snide comment when another supporter asks a perfectly reasonable question? Is it really necessary?
