Anyone west of Doncaster getting thunderstorms, seeing loads of lightning from my West facing living room here in Stainy, no rain or thunder yet though

Been at Askern music festival. The headliner Razorlight got cut short due to the lightning apparently.

Worst organised event I have ever been to! Real shame as the bands that were there were fantastic. But won't be going again.

It was a shambles.
You can put it down to teething problems when going bigger with the event. But from the comments online i don’t think people are so forgiving and next year it will be difficult attracting a lot of them back.

I'd agree with that. No event should have queues of the time there was yesterday.
3 hrs in the bar queue and over an hour to get out the car park which wasn't even that busy.  Shame as I thought the sound setup etc and location was pretty good.

I was speaking to Jimmy Mac who ran the acoustic stage and he wasn’t happy at all.
He has promised a brutal discussion will take place in the event de-brief.
Aside from the obvious shambles of the bars and access the acoustic tent was ruined by the facts that it was clogged up with bar queues meaning the artists were not listened to and people could not get in to see them.
The tent was also in the wrong position as you could hear the main stage at all times. It should have been where the fairground was.

Didn’t think about all that but it’s bang on. People were going to the acoustic tent just to try and get a drink.

The toilets were just as bad, overflowing with piss later on. I tried to escape into the woodland area at the entrance to go to the loo and some steward in a jacket followed me into the woods.

A piss take!

I was following a Portaloo waste truck down Askern Road this morning doing about 15 MPH. I thought to myself, he's taking the piss.

In your advisory capacity knockers, what would your thoughts be on The Jam’s ‘THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT’ being played at home games after a Rovers win?

That's good. Better than The Empress Building in Mexborough who had £15k worth of sound equipment but didn't pay a sound engineer to set it up right.
The end result being sound distortion through the speakers and not being able to hear anyone singing.
Plus rude bar manager and then most people paying online for tickets but no one checked them so all the walk ins got in for free.
Won't be going there again.

Sounds like a plan to me Colin.

Was in Wakefield last night and to say it absolutely hammered it down would be a massive understatement, cars were coming to a stand as the rain bounced off the road, you could not see 10foot i front of you. The low railway bridge just before Ackworth was flooded with about 5 foot of standing water under the bridge. mini foods and aquaplaning going off all over the place.

When you had accompanying thunder storms that turned the western sky night into day it was all quite surreal and bloody scary..

It’s lashing down here but thankfully I’ve brought a brolley out with me. But as I was passing the newsagents a bloke came out with a newspaper on his head.

He wasn’t holding it above his head, it was just resting on top of it.

I thought to myself ‘Blimey, if that gets soaking wet before he gets home & the print ink runs, that’s gonna make headlines.

We left 2 songs into Razorlight, so missed it all being curtailed at just the right time, I think. We were back on the bus towards Donny and in the pub in Bentley for 10.15

They were really good tbf glad we stayed until the slightly early ending.

If they sort the problems out it'll be a great event and they've acted with credit imo afterwards by simply saying things didn't go to plan and they want to fix it. Can't say fairer than that.

Agreed. Although they should have come up with contingency plans as soon as they knew the issues. 10k ish people all with mobile phones was always going to overload the network there with contention for connections. It's bad enough there without thousands of people there. Some infrastructure improvements for next year and this will be seen as a harsh lesson on the learning curve to getting it right. Someone on the day was saying that AMF had bought that land from Thornhurst so it looks like that's the permanent home.

I think in reality many of the issues that occurred on Saturday should have been forseen.

One relatively small main bar for 8 thousand people and approx 60 toilets just mathematically doesn't work.

The wifi/phone signals should have been thoroughly tested well in advance.

The acoustic stage was incorrectly positioned being far too close to the stage and having a bottle bar in there just didn't work making it impossible at times to watch the acts in there.

They tried to squeeze too many acts in on one day resulting in many acts having their sets cut short, especially early in the day when there were several really talented locals acts only having a few songs.

However, on reflection from a personal perspective if they can make some serious infrastructure improvements I would be tempted back because the acts on the main stage were fantastic, Tom Meighan and The Lottery Winners being my highlights.

The WiFi/phone signals were the issue for the card machines going down for several hours was my understanding as they use the wireless machine now.

Honestly never understood festival's, even in my youth.

Shit views, shit acoustics, only see back of someone's head, crammed in like sardines, mud pit, bogs with shit and piss everywhere.

Hell on earth.

Laughed out loud when a colleague told me how much he spent on going to Glastonbury
