I've posted on here before about the idea that we can create a museum that would be available to all Rovers supporters and would be developed by us.

This does have club support but the discussions about a physical presence for this is taking some time, purely because we need something that's available 7 days a week and would be large enough to accommodate a reasonable display of exhibits to make it worthwhile. Those discussions are ongoing and will prove fruitful at some point.

However, we have been given the green light to go ahead with a virtual museum that would then partner or morph into a physical museum. Today I'm asking for volunteers from the supporter base who either have the technical ability, the enthusiasm, or the knowledge to assist. It will need some commitment but won't become onerous on those who do volunteer as we can spread out the work load. The VSC have promised some funds to kick start the idea.

Here's a couple of examples, the first is the Football Museum in Manchester;

https://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/virtual-gallery/

The second one is a club based museum as produced by Bayern Munich;

https://fcbayern.com/museum/en/the-exhibition/gallery-virtual-tour

Could anybody who has an interest in this please contact me? Either directly on here or by DM or email.

I know there are a few who have already offered their help so we could be up and running pretty quickly.

Thanks for reading!!

Seems an excellent idea. Glad to hear there have been a good number of volunteers so far. Wish I had abilities that would help!

Ability not really needed Cotty, just enthusiasm and a view on what you would like to see in a museum.

I think this is a great idea. I would though, I've got loads of stuff that I would have put into a physical museum.

In my opinion we need to work out collectively what material we have and be able to write a narrative behind every piece/project. In that regard we could do with as many  people putting themselves forward as possible to get the project up and running. Crazy as it seems some of you older supporters may not have the material, but have heads full of memories and some of you will have time on your hands, so put your names down and let's make it happen. Even the younger ones (under 50's) can contribute either with ideas or writing, narrating and techy stuff. What I'm saying is you don't have to have possessions to go in the museum to get involved.

Again, just my thoughts, but setting up a committee might be the starting point to get the list of material documented and to decide on the way forward.

You probably get the idea, but I'm in. Let's make it happen. Happy to help in anyway I can.

Thanks GKFC, some good ideas there.

Again, I must echo your thoughts, the more people that contribute the better the museum will be.

Hi SM.

Just being nosey I suppose, but how many volunteers have you got and how many would you ideally want?

Has anyone said what type of memorabilia they have and do we know what the club has got already? I suspect lots of us have loads of programmes, books and handbooks, but I'd be interested in what there is after that. Might be worth a trip to the South Stand reception at some point to catalogue what is in the cabinet. There also used to be a fair few bits in the cabinet in the Directors lounge. Alick Jeffrey's England Under 23 caps were in there but it is several years since I've been in there.

It would be great if the museum also incorporated video interviews with fans and players through the decades. Only Brian Makepeace is still alive from my first Rovers eleven of the 1950s but I would love to see him interviewed by a fan who saw him play and I volunteer to do that interview . Harry Gregg was interviewed by someone who hardly knew him and  it was such a disappointment

GKFC,

We’ve got about 7/8 at the moment, but in terms of numbers needed I’m not quite sure. I suppose it depends on what want to cover and how we go about that.

In my minds eye I have different categories where anybody logged on can go down certain paths, i.e. all the different shirts the club have played in, all the players season by season, memorabilia, history, a Belle Vue section, and a tour of the Eco Power, and as Brian’s suggested a player interview section. etc etc.

I think that we then pick the subject we want or feel capable of pursuing and allocate that to an individual. And if we do it that then will need a few more volunteers so that it doesn’t become burdensome on any of us.

Always happy to discuss, and I’ll put out something to those that have volunteered in the next day or so.

But any last minute volunteers are always welcome!!

Quick update.

In terms of numbers we have about 10 volunteers now, and we have some great ideas to shape this project.

We have our first face to face meeting next week hosted by the club!
