Making top half and maybe making top 10 is a good season for us this year.

I doubt that the board and GM would agree with that.

I reckon they would. Having to sign 12 players and needed a massive rebuild signing mostly young and unproven player and with the likes of Wrexham and Stockport who have top end league 1 budgets. I reckon the aim would’ve been top 10.

Your last sentence is wrong, Bailey. The board and GM stated clearly that the aim this season was promotion, on the back of Terry's investment.

That's the reason we sold 5000 STs.

I've had to edit it. I put you're instead of your. Can't have grammatical errors. Syd would be on to me.

Though an experienced goalkeeper would be beneficial ,it isn’t a priority . We have bigger problems having an alternative in the midfield playmaker role when Westbrooke is injured. He is one of the few signings of recent years to have worked out. He just needed an opportunity to play regularly.

With Miller out and Lavery, the latter who I think could still do a job for us, not being fit at the moment, we miss options to change a game off the bench. Maxwell seems to be having a lot of bad luck with minor knocks.

We just have our right back, in contention after months out. We definitely need striking options if we want to push for higher up the table. Dallas is a really good shout for a loan deal.-a player I would have liked us to have signed when he came available.

If we had the whole squad available, I do think we would be higher up the table. It has caused inconsistency in the side having players available one week, then drop out with a knock the next week.

I thought the point away at Accrington was one of those occasions where, the conditions were not great, decent side away. You take the point and move on to the next one. Clean sheet is a plus. Definitely need a few in, in the transfer window to cover those out long term-loans probably the best way to go about it.

Then you don’t get saddled with too big a contracted squad. There has definitely been an improvement of late which it was important for us to see. Progress is being made.

Ppg over the season is now 1.2. An improvement on the first quarter season. But If it stays the same that’s 55 points come season end.

If you look at the progress since game 7 the trend is nearer 60 points by the end. If McC can increase the rate of improvement we could just threaten 7th.
its actually 68 PTS we would end up if we start adding ppg from game 8,  as we all know first 7 were a waste of time.  And that's including a shocking away record we currently have....

Problem I have is I don’t see us having a better squad of players at this level next season. Maybe I’m rose tinted glasses but I think we’ve a good group of players who most games I wouldn’t swap for the oppositions.

Not often you have 2 centre forwards capable of scoring at a decent rate who click playing together. That’s the type of thing that should separate us from the mid table teams but we had a bad start and concede too often.

I’m still hopeful it’ll really click in the 2nd ophakf of the season and we go on a big run. I think we are capable if we just make it a bit harder for the opposition to score

Yh, to the public the aim was promotion but I reckon behind closed doors the aim would’ve been top 10 pushing towards play offs.

The board aren’t going to come out in the press and say the aim is mid table are they? They need to say the aim is high so they sell season tickets.

Nobody aims for a mid table finish. I have no doubt the board, including TB's additional funding, did alot to give us a great chance of achieving it, from appointing McCann in the first place and providing him with the means to assemble a bigger squad and backroom team, which on paper should have us competing at the top end.

You can't always account for the unknowns though and yet again, we've been plagued by injuries and it took longer than any of us anticipated to get going.

Of course, we are behind where we want to be but we are trending in the right direction which everyone can see and accept the mitigating circumstances.

Nobody's been fooled, we bought into the excitement of a new era under McCann, including JR, and we still believe in him although we have to accept he's not a magician.

We are very close to being a very good footballing team that plays exciting football and I'm sure we're still looking forward to the rest of the season just to see how high we can go. There's always a team that comes with a late run, gaining momentum and becoming unstoppable. That could easily be us.

I don't think anyone expects us to be top 7 at the end of the season. The injuries are seeing to that.

I think he's signed good players in Ironside, Bailey, Faal, Nixon, Sterry. Which gives me confidence in next summer and therefore next season. I don't even think Terry will have to spend loads as there's a few high earners who I wouldn't keep out of contract this season. Taylor Rowe and Wood will be our higher earners for sure who I wouldn't keep and the money could be used better.

I didn’t say the aim was mid table, I said the aim this season in what is a rebuild season to build on for next season would’ve been top 10 pushing for play offs which we are still capable of doing.

With the money being spent by the top end clubs (Wrexham, Stockport and Notts County especially) it would’ve been delusional for to expect us to be up there with them when we have signed 12 players and most of them haven’t played at this level before.

A lot of clubs this season will be building ready for next season when the league is likely to be easier on paper when them 3 all probs go up (Stockport and Wrexham should defo be top 3) and then the teams coming into the league aren’t as good (barring maybe Chesterfield) or don’t have as much money as them.

Speaking to a Barnsley fan the other day who said the general League One standard is very poor currently.

Last years relegated teams in to league 2 are currently:

10th, 12th, 13th and 23rd.

Last League 2 season, the relegated league 1 teams then finished:

13th, 17th, 18th and 21st.

It’s that downward spiral, and getting used to losing,  that many of us on here spoke about when Rovers were first struggling a couple of years ago.
I seriously think that had we not brought McCann in that we could be going into the National League at the end of this season.

I agree with that, Hound.  I very much hope the lessons of the last three seasons will have been learned by the club.

Also the funds Terry put forward. We've upgraded in certain areas of the pitch because of it.

I did quote just three teams because one of the 4 is usually a proper dog, and likely to keep falling. Honestly:)

Having money doesn’t guarantee you success, it makes it easier, there’s no doubt about that. You can’t wait around for clubs to get promoted and think, they have more money than us, we can’t compete.

As much money as Wrexham have, the side they put out isn’t much better than our best eleven when all fit. They maybe have a bit more depth to the squad that helps when injuries happen.

We have had bad luck with injuries but so have other sides. It’s how you cope with adversity that singles you out from being a winner or an also ran.

Somebody like a Goodman should be looking at the situation and thinking if I can get an opportunity here I can make it pay and make a name for myself.
Things going wrong provide opportunities for players, whether they take them can make all the difference in their careers.

We shouldn’t be doing anything but aiming for promotion. None of this stabilise for a year rubbish. There is enough in this squad, even with injuries to be higher than they are. No excuses, enough have been made over recent years. We’ve been professional losers in the recent past. That tag has been removed, it’s time to drag themselves up the league.

Don’t know who the knb head who was trying to have a go at people for sitting down and not getting behind the team, then proceeded to slag Jones off for not catching the ball and then ripped into Sterry for putting the ball out. Same numpty was asked to stop swearing and said something like women and kids shouldn’t be at football

Yeah, I lasted 20 minutes in the proximity of this bellend, before moving to try and find somewhere else to watch from. I don't get to Rovers games very often these days as I can't justify the cost, so when I have forked out the money for travel and a ticket, and got piss wet through, I don't appreciate someone loudly and persistently telling me I'm a shit supporter because I don't want to stand up and block the view of the elderly bloke behind me.

Fair play to him though, probably the only weather this season where his goggle-hat will have come in useful.

I’m surprised that he has mates. I wouldn’t want to go to games with somebody like that.
