Crucial game. As we all now know.

Lose and the free fall we are witnessing could take us out of the league.

I never thought we would go up (or challenge) but did hope for a solid season with promise for the next one. The signs are ominous.

It's not good enough.

Mansfield not long ago. Harrogate in spells.

Sutton are a million miles off Stockport.

Proper LB. Bailey back into CB. Bin Hurst off who runs around scared we'll get a result. Still time to get a GK who will catch the ball under his cross bar from crosses.

Sutton have only won 3 home league games all season. By comparison, we have won twice as many (6). They have though lost only 6 at home, compared to our 7. They have a tight defence as well, conceding only 20 at home which is less than top of table Wrexham and same as third place Notts County. I would absolutely bite the hand off anyone offering a draw.

I wouldn’t say 20 conceded in 14 games is a tight defence. 14 sides in the division have a better record than that so it’s below average regardless of the record of two sides towards the top of the division who prioritise attack over defence.

Would absolutely take a point though!

This is one of the biggest weeks in our post-Richardson era. If results go our way, we end the week 10 points clear of relegation and having dealt a big psychological blow to our opponents. If results go against us, we end the week 1 point ahead of Sutton and staring relegation in the face.

It is a relative metric, given where we both sit. In the bottom 8 sides in terms of home form, Sutton have the best home defensive record other than Bradford City. We are shit and they are shit, but they have a tight home defence relative to us, and certainly when you look at our away form. Only two sides have managed fewer goals away from home than us (oddly, Wrexham and Gillingham).

Also if you look at the sides occupying the promotion challenging places of 1-7, Sutton have a home defensive record same as or better than half of them. It’s true there are certainly others with a better home defensive record but for a shit side, Sutton have a relatively tight defence at home.

Yesterday I picked up tickets for the next four away games? What's wrong with me?

Repetitive strain injury with an underlying diagnosis of psychotic bravado.

Will Sutton get 6 points for the win like?

I’ll be there. A long day for me but I just hope that we have a good day on the pitch. It really is a must not lose game.

This is going to be a very interesting match. Sutton United, just like FGR, Colchester, Grimsby and Salford, have made an ambitious appointment as manager/head coach.
Doncaster Rovers is the only one of the bottom eight not to make a change in the dugout. That isn't necessarily a bad thing but this season has been astonishingly bad. McCann was brought in early enough to have the whole summer window to recruit as he wished. In a few days he'll have had the entire January window.
I remember the optimism ante-post this season. I thought the playoffs as a minimum would be achieved. Lose at Sutton and fail to beat Tranmere and surely a replacement will be considered.

If Sutton do beat Harrogate on Tuesday then Saturdays outcome could be very decisive on who goes down.
