I'm fairly confident of a win. We were much the better side earlier this season, the only difference was Matt Smith and with Wood playing he won't find it easy. In fact in a foot race I'd fancy Wood over Smith who can't run. I think in the previous game this season we put 40 odd balls in to their box compared to their 10 so if we improve our quality we should be ok.

Funk, they wanted and did start fast in the game, it was over after one minute and beyond redemption after twenty seven minutes, their midfield toyed with us and at times let us have the ball knowing we would F*** up.
They controlled the full ninety minutes.

Well I hope we are equally shit tonight then if we manage 21 attempts at goal. I really must start watching matches with my eyes open then I might see what's really happening.

Funk, it is a different game I will settle for one on goal attempt and it ending up in the onion bag myself rather than three in ours and 21 duds that count for nothing, unless you like stats of course, but they don't get you points as far as I know.
I wouldn't mind them having twenty one dud attempts tonight though if we get a goal.

The only change I would make for this is Nixon for Sterry.

Stopping crosses getting in to the box is going to be the main priority. They have some quick wingers and attacking full backs.

Once it’s delivered accurately and Smith is there I don’t think it matters who is at centre half.

I might be wrong, but I'm sure Nixon hasn't been in the squad for the last 2 games. If that's the case, he must be injured.

Not according to McCann he isn’t

So why has he been left out of the squad? He's been one of our most consistent performers this season.
Totally agree, Nixon has done really well in a poor side, love his commitment & tenacity, wish we had another 3 or 4 of his like. Personally I would play him in midfield.

What Smith might be quick at (if not running) is seeing Wood off early doors then enjoying the freedom of our 18 yd box

Quite a possibility but I will be gutted if it happens. Hope Wood gets there first

A draw if not a win will make things look a lot better going forward and if we play as well again in midfield and we play to our capabilities we can do well.

It was an awful game,
But maybe that’s what we need to create, going to places like that, they’re a very physical side and we matched them.
Should’ve won

We didn’t have a shot in anger for 70 minutes. Draw probably fair overall. Got a reward for working hard, think the system has helped solidify us in the last two games. Two sitters in the middle of the park. Hate 4231 but it’s a handy system for struggling teams.

1 point away, 3 at home, if we can keep that up then we have no problem, and start to worry others.

We were robbed
How that goal of Wood’s was given off side is beyond me.
There were 2 Salford players on the line.

Feel as though we are growing as a team in the last 2 games
Thought Wood again was a tower at the back and Craig was excellent in midfield.
Adalukin should have had a hat trick.

Horrible team to play against but we matched their physicality.

3 points at Grimsby on Saturday.

I don’t think craig is a natural sitter, he’s got too much ability for that.
I thought it was a proper league 2 performance from us, one we’ve missed for years

What an awful match to watch, The result feels like a loss to us but to get a point against a team of cloggers is progress for us, we stood up to their strong arm tactics and matched them, Wood and Anderson stood their ground and made Smith look like a complaining carthorse.

We should of had the game wrapped up when Adelakun was clean through but his heavy touch gave Cairns time to dive on the ball. Woods goal looked ok to me, not sure how he could of been offside.

The only bit of quality in the whole match from us was the cut back from Craig for Adelakun to fire home he second. Oh, and their late free kick, not defendable.

Need to build on this and play some football against a poor Grimsby side.

You can’t believe the class of 92 allow a team they own, to play in such a dump.

Due to other commitments I missed first half and beginning of second. Got it on from 55mins.

Bottom end of L2 standard again. But in the 35-40mins I saw we scored, Adelakun shouldve had another, wood one ruled out, ironside missed a sitter of a header. Then they score a stunning free kick.

Dont know what happened in first 55 but from what I saw we deserved a win there.

A lot more promising than a month ago.

Wood I really like, adds something to us throughout.

The loan signings I rate, keeper, Craig, Adel, played well again.

Salford were dirty bas**rds, anyone see the elbow on Craig by Tilt as they chased a ball to our dugout, was a straight red every day of the week and Tilt was already on a yellow. And their dive in their box that got Craig booked!!!

I'm not his biggest fan but for the portion of the game I saw I thought Anderson was absolutely outstanding. Totally nullified Smith, had him in his pocket, played old school tricks, but job done without the plaudits. After the second half display on sat and what I saw tonight he deserves to carry on in team.

Another point on the board away from home is good

The defender Tilt was blocking and obstructing players all night, how the ref didn't see any of them, makes you wonder what they are actually looking at. One on Waters was particularly cynical. The dirty Kitson.

Hats off to their announcer who said at half time:

“For anyone who, like the Doncaster defence, is keen to get their hands on a Salford City shirt, they are available in the Club Shop”.

That from a club employee shouldn’t be allowed and could be seen as an attempt to influence the ref

The Salford fans forum has a plethora of complaints about Rovers setting out to niggle and stop them playing and of course how unfair the ref was. Nothing was said about the “goal” ruled offside of course. Even so, the considered view seemed to be that neither side deserved to win, which, when adjusted for bias, means we deserved it more than them.

Karl Robinson was very balanced in his comments, recognising how our season has been adversely affected by injuries and forecasting that next season’s corresponding fixture will be between two teams at the top of the league completing for promotion. (It’s strange how some of the more excitable managers often talk very sensibly after the event. I think I’d say that for Evans too! Perhaps they expend all their emotions during the game and only have rational judgement to fall back on!)

To me it was quite a witty comment and it made me think that our announcer could take a lesson from their guy. Nothing wrong with a bit of home bias as long as it’s done in the right spirit.

At our last home game, our guy invited the crowd to “let’s make some noise for the Rovers!!”
An invitation which of course the Tranmere fans accepted with gusto!

On a serious note, the quality of the tannoy at Salford was brilliant. I know it’s a much smaller stadium than ours but you could hear every single word perfectly.
It’s so frustrating at the Eco Power because I miss 90% of what is said. The recent interviews with Alan Brown, Chris Brown and Brian Flynn were totally inaudible in the West Stand.

Being cynical I guess he might have tried the shirt joke before. The thing about stadium PA is that it always seems too challenging for the sound engineers that we hire. Having said that, since you could make out some of it even in the old days, it seems decades behind the times now. Don’t they hold concerts in the Ecopower in the summer??
