Didn’t Connor Grant duck out of the way of one at the near post a few years ago and ball went straight in

I remember one when we lost v Shrewsbury. 0 1.

Awful game

Corner was from SE corner of Ground. BFG was in goal and Ben Sheaf I think was on goal line between near post and corner flag

Their bloke miskicked it and it rolled most of way . Don't know if Ben got a call but he left it and it went in at near post

No shots on target in entire game as the corner didn't count ( as a shot on target that is )

It was Connor Grant on the near post Wolfie, not Sheaf.
The ball didn’t roll any of the way either.
It was hit quite low though and Grant ducked under it as though he had had a shout from the keeper.

Nearly all corners are taken outside the quadrant.
There always seems to be day light between the line and ball.

Is it a question of all of the ball being over the line? Yet how many free kicks are taken precisely on the spot where the ref has squirted his white paint? Or how many throw-ins are taken from the right place? The only strict enforcement is of penalty kicks.

there can be daylight between the ball and the quadrant, doesn’t have to be touching the line

As long as some of the curve of the ball is over the line, it's ok. It means sometimes there looks to be quite a bit of space between the ball and the line from some angles, even though it's classed as in the quadrant by the rules of the game.

The irony there is that later in the game, after we had scored from outside the quadrant, the ref stopped a Crewe player from taking the same liberty.

Listening to Grant's interview it's clear that he meant to curl it in under the bar - probably in the hope that it would get a little flick into the net but as it happens there was no need for another player to touch it and it went straight in.

I have a memory that Robert Gill scored directly from a corner in the Conference but can't find anything about it online, maybe a Mandela Effect...

Silly really though to worry or get wound up by an inch or two at a corner. An extra meter wouldn't make much difference. Stricter enforcement of free kicks in shooting distance including policing defender's walls would be a better objective.

Presumably though, if we had VAR in league 2 and thank God we don't, the goal would have been disallowed.

Change the quadrant into a Square .... Change rule to say Ball must be placed with it's point of contact within the square

I cant believe that Players try to steal an inch or less on Corners. It seems the only reason is to (again) kill the Clock.

It's always done in the same Corners NW and SE where Lino is furthest from the scene and Ref preoccupied with the pushing and shoving going on. Then the crowd bellow and the Ref stops play and goes to examine the " crime scene " and the Player rolls the Ball back half an inch. Job done , another minute the Ref won't add on

Which made the one Crewe did late on in the Second Half NE corner so bizarre because they were losing and as I have said before what possible advantage do you get by having the Ball 1/2 an inch nearer the Goal because as they often prove most players can and do reach the opposite Corner Flag when over hitting their Corner kick

Perhaps players feel they can get a ‘truer’ contact on the ball when it’s on the grass rather than the painted line? But then you could argue why not place it inside the quadrant where it’s grassed, I dunno.

Can’t see how two inch makes any difference (“what was that Mrs C?”.) at corners & let’s be honest, how many times do ref’s get free kicks placed at exactly where the offence took place.

The only spot (no pun intended) on the pitch where it really matters is the penalty spot.

Agreed on the defensive wall thing.
Refs strides are never a metre long and usually the last two steps don’t add up to a metre in total.
Regarding the quadrant thing, players should be made to adhere to it.
If not, why have the law in the first place.

I laughed once at Barnsley v Wolves

Kavanagh was having a "mare" of a game. He gave Barnsley a free kick at their home end . He strode out his paces and made Wolves wall stand there

I could see even from half way that it was nowhere near 10 yards. Barnsley players protested loudly , then their smallest player (Scowen) strode out with exaggerated strides and made 7 strides only

I thought Yellow Card for dissent but Kavanagh unimpressed refused to remeasure , or move wall or move ball

He made Barnsley take it and ffs they actually scored

Every other Free kick the crowd counted every stride he took and cheered when he got to TEN !

Later in an unrelated matter Barnsley got a Free kick right if front of me on left flank 30 yards from their own goal. Left back put it down , looked upfield but then played it square to Keeper.

30 yards from goal he came out , picked up the ball with Wolves fans and players going mad , spun it forwards , as they do , then took what he was "the" Free Kick.

The murmer round the Ground was something you very rarely hear as the Crowd couldn't believe what had just happened

Wolves won 3-1 I think it was

I remember one when we lost v Shrewsbury. 0 1.

Awful game

Corner was from SE corner of Ground. BFG was in goal and Ben Sheaf ( edit corrected to Connor Grant)  I think was on goal line between near post and corner flag

Their bloke miskicked it and it rolled most of way . Don't know if Connor G got a call but he left it and it went in at near post
Can your remember JT when Bob Chappell stepped back to take the corner at Carlton making a painful contact with electric fence then scored direct from his kick. I recall the ref being unhappy with his language.

.

No shots on target in entire game as the corner didn't count ( as a shot on target that is )
