Biggins

This is a strange one to me. Why the deliberation over signing?

He’s been superb recently but I can’t imagine he’s had interest from the league above after his last 2 seasons as a whole.

We’re now high in the L2 pecking order and he’s a South Yorkshire lad.

Agents, be trying to get the best deal for themselves not Biggo.

He'll probably end up at another league 2 club on the same wages but the Agent will have pocketed a hefty finders fee.

Has had a lot of stick this season. His Dad has probably seen and heard the worst from some of our fans. Wouldn't blame him if he moved on. Not a high earner and would probably be wanting a decent contract at his age now.

Could be anything. Could want more money, a longer contract, better bonuses, anything.

As good as he was for the last 2-3 months of the season, I don't think we should push the boat out. He's 28 now so probably just about at his peak. If you assess his contribution over the whole 2 years he probably wouldn't be offered anything, he's played his way into a contract offer towards the end of the season and fair play to him for that. I'm confident we could find a replacement though if needed.

We might have only offered him a 1 year deal. He’s generally not been great for us but has shown over the last few months he can offer us something if played in a certain way.

He isn’t really a proven league one player so if we’re aiming to go up we might not want to offer him a long deal.

He has never looked happy on video and when interviewed and has not had much expression of love from fans either .

As much as I like Biggins his resilience leaves a question mark for me (obviously we have a new fitness team in now of course) seems to miss quite a few games.
Still hoping he signs though

I guess at 28 years old his next contract is a particularly important one for him.
Possibly his last shot at a 'big' contract as it will take him into his thirties.

drfcsteve says earlier up this thread that Biggo isn't really a proven League 1 player, but despite being with us for two seasons in L2 he's still played more games in L1 during his career to date.

Eventually found his position with us - more attacking midfield, but box to box.

Certainly improved towards the end of the season.

I agree Alan, I was his biggest critic prior to his upturn in form, however I honestly believe he’s a better player with the right mix in midfield allowing him to get forward more, and obv there’s playing for a new contract either with us or another club which may also had an influence with upturn in form and performances, I’d certainly like to see him next season tho in the Red & White hoops

The difference is now we’ve got Bailey doing the hard yards and running behind him which is not Biggins’ game.

And GM will have had a hand in Biggins performance improving recently, like several of our players have under GM.

P.s. I don't mean Gary Mcsheffrey

Does the new signing mean he’s out of the equation

Biggins a very different player and more of a physical / aerial threat in the box when at his best.

He was nearly out the door in January so probably weighing up his options because if he didn't have the final 3 months he had he probably would have been on the released list.

Another ‘Craig’ type player in the midfield and I think that area is done.
