The cross roads has come.....
« on March 02, 2010, 08:32:16 pm by Norfolk N Chance »
Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan says the club will need a major cash injection if they are to challenge for a place in the Premier League.
In 12 years at the club, Cheshire-based Ryan has guided Rovers from the Conference to the Championship, where they currently lie in 14th place.
\"It needs cash investment and the directors have done their bit,\" Ryan told BBC Radio Sheffield.
\"We've put in probably towards six million in the past two years.\"
It is thought that Ryan has personally financed the club to the tune of £5m.
But now the lifelong Doncaster fan says the gulf between the Championship and the Premier League is too much for himself and the fellow directors to finance out of their own pockets.
\"We can't continually make up this great big gap to bring in the players you want,\" said Ryan.
\"You can't do it all the time and the fans might be unhappy that the prices may have gone up a bit.\"
Meanwhile, the club have extended the loan of Birmingham City midfielder Jordon Mutch by another month.

The title of this thread is absolutely correct. This time had to come, we can't expect JR and the KM2 to keep bailing us out to the tune of millions year after year out of their own pockets. Chairman and directors they may be, but I wouldn't like to see my millions disappear trying to keep an unprofitable business afloat.

I know all things are relative, and the numbers they deal in are far, far greater than any of us will be able to attain, but the theory is still the same. We moan about rising prices in pounds, they moan about rising costs in millions of pounds.
It is time for this club to find investment from other sources if we are to progress, as I get the feeling that now JR has delivered Championship football, (as promised) the burden on his personal fortune has become too much to bear.

God knows where investment will come from given the current economic situation, but JR needs help, even though the KM2 are probably in a better financial position than him, we don't know how committed to the cause they are, or what they have promised to bring to the club financially.

It's a tricky one and I don't know the answer to the problem of getting investors into the club, but if it doesn't happen, I wouldn't blame JR if he decides enough is enough.

Sounds to me as a precursor to Rovers going up for sale... Certainly an open invitation to new investors???
