Wayne Thomas

JR been on dee dah and said we've not heard from him and he thinks negotiations are still going on.

I would have thought that if he was coming, he'd be here by close of play tomorrow, certainly if he wants to be involved in the first game.

Didn't he come on trial?

I thought the whole point of going somewhere on trial was to try an get a contract from them! Let's hope Sharpy has a word in his ear about not being greedy over money.....isn't the whole point of being a footballer playing football.

JR and SoD give him a deadline or tell him to move on...good player but plenty more fish in the sea.

He's 31, i reckon he will be after 3 years and  knowing SOD we will probably only offer 2 years.

I think we should only offer one year. He is 31, has only made a couple of friendly appearances and we're not sure about him otherwise he wouldn't have been on trial. We shouldn't be held to ransome over this one as there should be other options.

He's obviously done ok but bearing in mind we started the summer looking at the likes of Shackell, I don't think he's in that class. The club ought to hold the aces in this one, not the player.

For DRFC:

1yr- excellent value
2yr- gamble
3yr- big gamble

That said, the gamble could pay off, that said it could backfire.

For Thomas at 31:

1yr- Is the last option
2yr- Any club is acceptable
3yr- Give me the signing pen whoever you are

You cannot blame him, for holding out at his age for a 3yr, then 2yr deal.....failing any offers of decent money, we should be in.

Someone needs to go back to school and learn their numbers... I wish being born in 1979 made you 29 too!

To be fair to spankster it does wrongly say that he is 29 on the BBC website. But he is defenitly 31. And hopefully we will sign him today as I thought he looked to a good player.

With his injury record at both Burnley and Southampton i would only offer him 1 year. If he gets offered longer anywhere else good luck to him at 31 i would try to get as long a deal as possible.

I am sure there will be plenty of alternatives before the end of August

I work with a Burnley fan o says they all thought it was some kind of wind up when Southampton offered a million for him a few years ago. He said pretty much everyone in Burnley went out on the piss to celebrate a smashing piece of business the night the transfer was agreed. So on that, is it any wonder he knows 1 yr may be a gamble for him.

People were asking him if he was going to sign as he walked to his car after the match on Saturday.  he said he wouldn't know till the end of the week.

Then one kid asked him if he was James Chambers so that may have scuppered any deal!

SOD's confirmed it's down to the term and we're unlikely to shift from our offer. Can't fault him.

If Derby offer him more then they're obviously not learning their lesson, as they only want him as cover for Barker who's out injured.

Time to move on I would have thought.  A player on loan from a Premier League club would be more preferable to me than a player who clearly does not want to join up unless no better offer materialises.

Squad player only, we should not offer anything over a 12 month contract.

I have heard that his agent spoke to sod this afternoon and he is signing a one year deal with a view to an extension should both parties want to

Can we assume then that ours was the best offer he had? 31 & looking for more than a year in the Championship after being released from League 1? mmmm. Just goes to show we are no mugs at this level, on or off the pitch.
