Save money...acquire loans?

Just been thinking, by the sound of it, we still have the best part of £1 million saved up, we are fast approaching the start of the season, why don't we save our cash and not back down to Wayne Thomas's demands and just get a young premiership centre back for a few months? Same with the likes of Mutch and JET, we have the basis of a squad, just cud do with 1 or 2 more players. I think I would prefer the likes of Caulker to Thomas to be honest.

Who knows, Keogh or Vokes or someone decent might come available in January, and would be nice if we still have the money (obviously be better if we dont need them!)

'back down to his demands'? How do we know if Thomas is 'demanding' anything? I have a feeling that we may still be after a young centre back on loan anyway, nobody ever said Thomas was going to be signed as the de facto replacement for Shackell. I imagine any loan moves that are in the works for us will materialise in the next week or two, we'll have to wait and see.

I dont think we will see Thomas before the end of the month even if he signs!

Well the obvious stumbling block is the length of contract Thomas is after, and at 31 I presume we are wanting to give him a one year and he is wanting a 2/3 year.

You dont know what we have offered or what he is asking for.  All speculation.

And its not as easy as you'd think to get the young prem kids in either.  Some of these have higher wages than some of our \"stars\", demand a signing on fee, will play teams wanting to loan them off against each other, etc.

Be assured that \"something\" is happening in the background.

John Ryan's comments on Radio Dee Dah were that he would like more Prem players in the squad so it would appear that we like every other Championship club are awaiting the naming of the 25 men squads and then see what we can pick up.

Last season the loan signing of Jason Shackell was announced on the morning of our first home game. Ideally I'd like to think a central defender will turn up in the starting line up at Preston in similar circumstances - we need one.

Speaking or Irons (or former Irons anyway), what happened to Andy Butler? I always thought he would make a good 'free' signing for someone, including ourselves. As far as I'm aware he doesn't have a club yet.
