Thats why I was wondering what could be done (without changing the router)
If I could put a gain antenna onto the router or the laptop end no problem but thats about the limit of my knowledge on this wireless stuff and the Missus has banned me from running ethernet cables all over the house
I've already pee'd her off wiring my desktop in

To be honest, you do need a better router. You could try an external USB dongle, it might help a little.
Where is your router and PC situated?

Oops just found the answer.
I've got a wireless sender I use to send sky tv upstairs to the bedroom, changed the channel on that and hey presto
