Somewhere to stay in Cardiff
« on August 17, 2010, 12:45:01 am by kittyslass »
Can anyone recommend somewhere decent and reasonably priced for an overnight stay after the match on Saturday. Don't fancy 4 hour drive back after the match so thought we'd stop over and come back Sunday.

No rush, going to turn in now, so will hope for replies tomorrow.

Thanks anyway.

Etap hotel is as cheap as you ll get.

Positives

close enough to the centre to walk
cheap

Negatives

mad rush for buffet breakfast in the morning
beds are a bit on the hard side

Think it was something like £25 for the room per night 3 years ago

Depends what you want from a hotel.

Etap is fine if you are going out on the lash and want somewhere to rest your head for a short while before you head back home, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are planning on having a night in the hotel as you will probably combust from boredom after 10 minutes given they only have a tiny TV with very basic channels on.

Ibis is reasonably cheap (if you can secure a decent rate) and is a bit of a step up from the Etap, as is the Travelodge.

I used to Stay on Cathedral road, heading away from the castle towards the millenium stadium, past the stadium over the river you come to a set of traffic lights, turn right and there is loads of good b&bs and decent small hotels all within walking distance of the city centre etc and also some very good pubs are on that street.

Gps co-ordinates are 51 28 56 40/ 3 11 23 50 if you have satnav change the settings from postcode to gps settings or type in Cathedral road and make up a house number.

We stayed at the Cardiff Gate Ibis for the JPT final. Easy to get to the centre via a bus journey which was quite regular. Situated just of the M4 so easy to get away once your ready to leave. Search for Ibis hotels I`m sure you`ll find it!

I always stay in the Holiday Inn adjacent to the Old Arms Park rugby ground and tagged onto the Millenium Stadium..... it's a 5 minute walk from the railway station and probably a 25 min walk to the new ground.

I've booked Mrs4475 and me into 'Sleeperz' hotel on Cathedral Street - looks quite nice, £65 for the double room (cheaper than advertised at least!)- but unfortunately no brekki!

We stay in the Newport Hilton when we go to Cardiff.  There is usually a good deal on.  I've had a quick look and the best is £79 for a double room or £95 with breakfast ( which is very good). Usually it is about £140 for 2 nights B&B with an evening meal  ( a la carte ) on the first night. You can have free parking and its only 20 mins into Newport by train.

You can always try www.laterooms.com

We once got a fantastic deal on the PAramount Angel hotel - I think it was about £70 per night for one of the nicest hotels I've ever had the pleasure to stay in.

I'm staying at the Newport Wetherlodge. Its cheaper at weekends, and they give a discount on top if you book late. Only paying £23 a night!

Its actually attached to a Lloyds bar, with music to 3am - maybe thats why its so cheap...  :P

A pair of us top and tailed in the double while one of the lads kipped on the top bunk. We split the cost 3 ways and it worked out at £10 each, which was an absolute bargain.

Crikey, that sounds like a right menage a trois!

On the plus side, its only a minute walk to the railway station. Trains run to Cardiff regularly, takes 15 minutes, and are cheap.
