Falling Attendances
« on August 29, 2010, 03:29:27 pm by eastender »
I know a lot as been said about ticket pricing and falling attendances, and as most people suspect it's not just DRFC that are felling the pinch.

Here's a fact from yesterday's Championship Games, out of all the teams that played at home and were in the championship last season, DRFC were the only team to get an attendance above last seasons average.

Before i get the usual replies,i know things such as local derby's and live TV have to be taken into account,it's just a fact. :)

TEAM.....      YESTERDAY.....       09/10 AVERAGE

Barnsley......            11,767.....                 12,969

Derby............             25,874.....                 29,230

Doncaster....             11,149.....                 10,991

Ipswich.........             19,011.....                 20,840

Notts Fort......             21,890.....                 23,890

Scunthorpe...              5,292......                 6,463

Sheff Utd......              19,692.....                 25,120

Swansea.....              15,135.....                 15,407

Watford........              14,039.....                 14,257

Leicester.....               19,611.....                 23,942

But when you add the Bristol game the average is actually down!

How will that effect last season's average?

The average this season is down on last season.

This season's average crowd may well be down on last year, but you can't judge that until the end of the season, other games will be above the average eg. Sheff Utd, Barnsley, or below,eg. Crystal Palace. Currently that comment means nothing.

Correct you cannot - therefore the opening to this thread is pointless!

Let's have a look at a like for like then, let's say the Bristol game this season compared to last season.

Last season......9,572

This season......9,291

A drop of 281 which ain't that bad considering that this year the game was played bang in the middle of the school holiday's.

The home support might even be closer as i'm sure that Bristol brought a couple of hundred more last season.

I expected the Hull game to be one of our best attendances (did they fill their end?), and really looking like it could be a better season for us on the field than last, which was tops. Big question as to why people aren't at least coming back and few more more attending more frequently.

If its just down to economics, the real stat is comparing last seasons and this seasons attendances for all teams who were in the Championship last season. And pedantically factoring in the change in the local job markets of each area. And an adjustment for differnece in league position from last season. Yeah, right....

Anyway, I'm just going with the original stat here, live is sweet :)

You still cannot compare the two, was it in the same week last year? Was the weather better? How well were the two teams doing at the time? Was their away support as big? Too many variables.  B)

Yeah, but compare a bunch of matches and average them and the variables become far less significant  B)

Exactly, that is why a discussion about this should start at the end of a season, not the start.
