Matchday Prices - Blackburn example

Found this on Hotukdeals. Seems like a good idea.

Blackburn Rovers are at it again – this time with a ‘dynamic pricing policy’ which looks set to further swell attendances at Ewood Park.

Renowned for innovative marketing, Rovers have now devised a scheme that will see games offered at varying price levels after many key factors have been analysed.

Traditionally, fixtures at Ewood are banded into categories and priced according to the perceived status of the opposition.

However, this new ‘dynamic’ initiative takes into account a number of issues which can influence the decision to attend a match or not.

These range from whether or not the game is to be screened on live TV, the day of the week and kick off time, how crucial the match is in terms of league position, the ‘attractiveness’ of the opposition – even the dreaded weather forecast!

Simon Williams, Head of Commercial and Marketing says, “We are constantly trying to find ways to make watching football at Ewood Park as attractive and appealing as possible

“The move to introduce ‘dynamic pricing’ comes after discussions with supporters. Feedback to our research has provided us with a clear understanding of the many factors which determine whether someone attends or not.

* Adults £10 with all concessions £5.

(This price will also be available to Fulham supporters and will include the Jack Walker Stand).

The few remaining seats in the Riverside and Blackburn End stands are sure to be snapped up very quickly. Supporters looking to help us overcome former manager Mark Hughes’ new charges should get their tickets without delay.

The board should most definitely take note of this for next season, be a massive issue should they introduce something like this now considering payments have already been made for season tickets. Like the idea a lot though.

Blackburn can afford to do this thanks to the massive payout they get for being in the premier league.  Sadly, I doubt a scheme like this could work in any other league.

I doubt it as well - the capital costs for a start. How much would something like that cost to set up? Blackburn can do it as they don't rely on agte receipts to fund the club. I doubt they'd follow it through in relegation.

Also how would it work out against season ticket holders who already pay a hypothetical discount per game - where would the incentive to actually get a season ticket up front if it means for an above-average rainfall season full of dull games you'd lose out?

Trouble is with our club, they listen to supporters and then Dave Morris decides he's right.

Blackburn have about 10 000 season ticket holders so there is obviously some incentive somewhere?

They have 10,000 season ticket holders prior to this being introduced.
