Retro Rovers shirt help wanted
« on February 24, 2011, 08:37:34 am by bruno »
Hi everyone
I have been given an old Rovers shirt made by Matchwinner and has the sponsor Hayselden on the front. The shirt has both football league logos on the sleeve and has number 7 on the back. I have done some research and found out that the shirt is from the 1995 - 1996 season and wondered if anyone could tell me who could have played number 7 that season.
Thanks in anticipation
Bruno

I won't be able to check it out till I get home, but I'm sure you're right about 95-96. There were no squad numbers in those days, so any number of players could have worn 7. I seem to think Jon Schofield wore the No.7 quite a bit around that time though.

According to the Rothmans Football Yearbook Schofield played 40 games and 1 as sub at number 7. The other 5 games no. 7 was worn by Ian Clark, who I don't remember.

Ian Clarke was a young. lad who looked a bit like Ravenhill,I don't think his face fit here but he ended up playing at a higher level with Darlington.when we went out of the league.

He also made it onto a Nick Hancock football bloopers video for the open goal he missed in a home game against Scarborough. One of those players who never stood out but still hung around Division 3 after we went out of it. Think he played for both Darlo and Hartlepool?

Looked a bit like Ravers in the face but had ginger curtains, and you're quite right, DN he was on the football nightmares video for skewing an easy chance over the Rosso end terrace against Scarborough.

Born in Stockton-on-Tees, I think we signed him from Stockton town and he returned to that neck of the woods with the aforementioned clubs.

We used to call Clarke  Gingernolla. Remember him going round 3 or 4 players the chipping the keeper but it hit the post, wouldve been a great goal

Yep I remember going to see some family friends who Clarkey was rooming with at the time. They couldn't resist bringing up and showing him the bloopers video at every opportunity. Nice lad.

My memory of Ian Clark was a supporter shouting at Kerry Dixon to get Clark off as he is s**t.

Dixon replied and said i know but i have nothing better on the bench.

Well remembered - I think you're right about the opponent too.

Digressing slightly from the original topic - I still hunt weekly for the 93/94 home shirt. The red and white zig zag pattern. It was the first season my Dad started taking me to Rovers and its the only shirt that alludes my collection so far; with it being the first season as well I really am hopeful I shall get one some time.

If anyone knows possible options I'm all ears - tried the usual TOFFS etc.
