Next season's goalie?

Jasbir Singh- formerly of Shrewsbury Town and Kidderminster Harriers. Currently at Solihull Moors. I was impressed with him when we played the Moors in a pre-season friendly- he made several really good saves. Yesterday he was excellent, saving a penalty (and blocking the rebound) and producing one world-class block to prevent a certain goal. He's a confident lad, has a good (left-footed) kick on him and he's only 21.

I'd like to think Rovers have kept an eye on him since that game. The thing is, if I've spotted his potential, I'm sure other clubs have.

I wouldnt fancy going into a season with Gary Woods and this lad. Both young and inexperienced at this level really. Id prefer a more experienced keeper and if one isnt avaialble id just ask Sulli to stay for another year. Maybe give the lad a chance as 3rd choice? Im sure at one point under Dave Penny we had 4 or 5 keepers on the books.

Not so easy to kick to the left wing then, might need a major change in tactics, kicking to the right wing?

I dont see a problem with woods his confidence is growing and growing and he is making good saves and abit of youth never hurts I just don't think anyone should write of woods so quickly

With the constrained budget, the club needs to look to bring in a keeper to replace Sully (sad but it's probably time to) who does not cost the earth. It depends whether Sean thinks it's wise to rely on Woods as #1 with his relative lack of league games. If he wants more experience between the sticks then he may well look to pick up someone at the end of his contract (eg Ben Alnwick pity he didn't get chance to play for us) in which case it would be likely that Woods would have to go out on loan next season to get that experience and that would bring the problem of back up.
On the other hand if Sean thinks Woods is ready we could bring in another greenhorn like TRB's suggestion

Saw Singh playing against Gainsborough a few months back, didn't look too bad.

While I think about it, on my last trip to Trinity when they played Stalybridge Celtic, none other than Jan Budtz was in goal for Celtic! Couldn't beleive my eyes. Penalty shoot out hero against Manchester City to average Blue Square Bet North League player.

I would prefer to see a new first choice next season, Woods has done Ok as a stop gap, but assuming that we don't want to be lokking don next season but upwards, we will need someone with more experience, who can marshall the back 4 and command his area. I know that's hard on Woodsy but Like other have siad I would prefer to see Woodsy out on loan and get a rookie to sit on the bench.

Make no mistake this is one of the 3 main positions in a team, goalkeeper, centre half, centre forward(striker in todays terms).
I think we should push the boat out and be looking to spend big to fill this position (havn't a clue who to sign)

I'd like to see us sign Joe Murphy. Good links with some of our players. Good keeper as well. Out of contract with Scunny in summer and they look to be well on there way down now.

As well as Woods has played there is something that worries me, he is no-where near any of the goals that have been scored against us, some goalkeepers are classed as unlucky, or there was nothing he could do to save that one but with Woods there doesn't to have been any chance of him saving.
I think we need someone a little more experienced or \"better\" the Woods JMHO.

But as has been shown this season you dont need 1 player to fill any key position, you need 2, so if we assume BS to stay, then thats still 5 signings required, just to stand still.

Hang on!  If you stand still, you go backwards!  Sean said so!

We have done that this season so lets hope we have the players to get goals in the last 8 games or we might be going further back than a lot expect.

I agree that a big signing would be nice. However, I would like to see a larger influx of influential signings in case of another future injury crisis, if we had lost the players we did earlier in the season then we may have been really clawing for points by now. (Sorry for the what-if's?).
I understand cost implications but with a bit of O' Driscoll magic I'm sure some 'out of contracts' as well as discovering a few gems can be introduced. But, as ever, there needs to be a fair distribution of transfer funds across the pitch - IMO

What about the lad from Bournemouth. He is getting glowing reports. Jalal or someone I think. I know Bournemouth rate him very highly.

I still think Richard Wright could do a good job for us.

Agree with this. I've watched a few Notts County games on telly this season, and he's excelled in every game I've seen.

I thought Wright would be a good signing, but according to a Blades pal he has a constant injury problem & struggles to last 90mins...and with our physio... no thanks.
