next seasons offerings?
« on April 28, 2011, 01:47:09 pm by sha66y »
as this seasons offerings have been comparable to a slightly damp squid (not very tasty)

what are we likely to see next season, i know this is a Hypothetical, but we have been most definately \"found out\" this season regarding Style of play,

we will still pretty much be starting with the majority of the current squad, who are clearly not good enough to \"SUSTAIN\" a Challenge,

am i going to be subjected to a season of losing week in week out and ala Preston, find ourselves in a dog-fight from the off???

a lot of you must be thinking the same thing........ where are the new guys coming from to replace the \"not good enoughs\"

do we have to keep all those given extended contracts, or can we just show them the door??

i know,!

what a crap post..... but it as been a widely discussed subject in my household for the last 6 months...

To whom on an extended contract would you show the door? There aren't many on one anyway - Copps, Sharp, Woods, Stock, JOC, Friend.

Overall though its an interesting point. Can we continue to play a highly technical passing game whilst our recruitment revolves around wheeling and dealing to find hidden gems.

Quote.....slightly damp squid (not very tasty)

Just a bit of semantics...The correct usage of this phrase is 'a damp squib' ie like a wet firework it wont be much good.

No.1 priority for me would be to increase the players' fitness levels so we don't have so many injuries and don't concede so many late goals.

No.2 would be a ball-winning midfielder. Followed by a centre-half with real leadership qualities and a goalie who commands his box.

Add those things to what we've got now, and we'd be fine.

Probably need to forget the beautiful football syndrome .We have not actually played beautiful football for a long time and many of the essential pillars around which our team was structured have been demolished and replaced by temporary scaffolding .  Mills , Shackell,Wellens and Green were pillars of strength replaced by props. We should hope that our most perspicacious supporter JR will see  our basic structure for what it is .!

I'd have to agree to be fair, I think we need to release/sell/get rid of a lot of the deadwood and aim for three or four shrewd free transfers/bosmans of better quality than what we have available, and maybe one marquee signing per pre-season (not necessarily millions of quid obviously.) I'd sooner have found ourselves with the massive injury list we had earlier this season with a squad of 18 good players as opposed to 8 good ones and 16 mediocre ones! Difficult to do admittedly but I trust our board and management teams to do the right things by our club! :scarf:
