Andy Keogh must be on the radar. He's coming into the last 12 months of his contract, he hasn't been wanted at Wolves and Kieth Millen has stated he doesn't have a future at Ashton Gate.

Tell me the last Championship player to be sold for £3m or more? My recollection is that it was Patterson to Burnley. Before that, Walcott to Arsenal. Could be wrong - and probably will be proved so by some wise old poster on here. So up to £3m is the going rate with the inevitable sell-on clause I guess.

Paterson went for £1M.

Difficult to find definitive data but, excluding players who had already played at Premiership level and taking only \"genuine Championship\" players, the last big transfer I can find was Roger Johnson - £5million from Cardiff to Birmingham in summer 09.

In terms of Championship strikers, other than Walcott, I'm not aware of ANY example in the lasdt 5 years of a striker without a previous top flight pedigree being transferred from a Championship club for more than £3million. Might be wrong, but I can't find one myself.

Jason Scotland went to Wigan for a similar sum around the same time.

The last REALLY big one was Andy Johnson, 5 years ago who went from Palace to Everton for anbout £8million.

So the conclusion is that if Billy Sharp, as a 25 year old with no track record above the lower reaches of Tier 2 was to be worth £5M, he'd be re-writing recent transfer record books and would be valued not far off the amount that players who went on to play for England like Johnson and Walcott went for.

£2.5M sounds about bang on.

Andy Johnson played for Palace in the Prem before that big move. He scored about 16-18 goals or so, the majority of which he won penalties and converted them. So if you include that, Ched Evans brief crash course in the Prem should qualify him to that list. 3mil to Sheff Utd after Everton's injury crisis allowed him a few games in front of the camera's.

Johnson's transfer fee was commanded in a similar way to Ashley Youngs almost identical season in Watford's brief stay in the Prem.

I always remember the funniest interview Scteeve McClaren ever did, the subject being A. Johnsons spot of form in the build up to Middlesbrough Vs Palace......

Interviewer-'So Steve, Andy Johnson has been scoring recently. Are concerned with the threat he poses in the upcoming fixture'

SM- 'Yeah......he takes a good penalty'

Lol

Also, didnt DJ Campbell go from 3rd tier football to Prem for a fair whack??? Had a good FA Cup, resulting in a big move.

.....and Gareth Bale.

.....Tom Huddlestone

.....and Nigel Quashie's agent somehow influenced West Ham to part 2.5mil for him???   :woot:  :saywhat:

Anyone got anymore gems in there memory tank??
