IF Billy was to go........l
« on May 01, 2011, 07:14:11 pm by Poshrover »
Who would you want to relace him?

I have been a supporter over 40 years and can recall great strikers over the years like, Elwiss, Big Bren, Warboys and Peter Kitchen. However we are now in a higher League. Billy has charisma and a swagger that sets him apart from other strikers in the Championship. He has been immense this season and I do NOT want to see him leave the Rovers.

For another 2 I would add Colin Cramb and Mike Jeffrey to that list - and all the rubbish that has gone in between too...

Who would I like to replace Billy - or who could we afford to replace him? I would like Lionel Messi - but reckon we could just about afford Lionel Blair!

Chris Brown or Darius Henderson for me.  Both League One players now so maybe get both to replace Billy and Brooker.  Billy would be almost impossible to replace though.  Would not mind seeing Sam Vokes or Andy Keogh given a chance here or take a gamble on someone from lower down the leagues like Will Hoskins or Izale Mcleod

I don't think he does want to go, he signed a three year contract last summer and is only one year into it. He knows he's the number one striker here and his presence in the side is worth several league places to us. Selling him should be completely off the agenda. We need to add a striker or two to complement what we currently have as we are very thin on the ground in that department. Signing Billy was a huge step forward for this club, selling him now would be ridiculous.

He looked happy enough in town with the other players last night anyway, with James Beattie in tow too!

I would like us to bring in Chris Brown and also have a look at Will Hoskins, done really well at bristol Rovers and with there status would be a steal. i would bring both these in if Billy goes or even if he stays.

I agree with euell, but beattie or Henderson would be great, I never thought we needed a big strong lad up front, but, brooker changed the game for us.

Bits in bold - never thought I'd see/hear that again from a Donny perspective.

To sell Billy would be the biggest retrograde step the club would make in years. As Jonathan says, a strike partner needs to be high on JR/SODs agenda close season for Billy. Perhaps someone should ask Billy who his ideal strike partner would be money permitting.

Seem to recall a recent SO'D interview where he said pairing Sharp with a target man in his opinion doesn't/won't work. He cited Bill's spell at Bramall Lane, rightly or wrongly, as evidence.

On the Chris Brown thing, i was on holiday in Barcelona last may and Browny was there with Dean Whitehead and a few other mates for a stag do and i asked him if he would ever consider coming back to Rovers, to which his reply was, and i quote:

\"Definitely, i really loved it there and i wouldn't hesitate in going back there if they wanted me\"

I have always thought a player like Chris Brown would offer us something different in attack, a bit of height in the box, strong and powerful presence. Not very often injured either. I think he would be perfect for Billy to feed off.

Billy worked quite well with Brooker (when he was fit for one or two games in January )

How about Sam Baldock from M.K.?

If M.K.do not get promoted he would be worth a bid. He is a natural goal scorer and works hard off the ball.

I think SOD could work his magic on him.

Also Tomlin at Peterborough is a strong player and knows where the goal is situated.

Wouldnt you want Mackail-Smith rather than Gav Tomlin?

I wasnt really worried at all about him leaving until I read this. I contributed to my view of a potential 'replacement' on the basis we needed a striker anyway and was thinking more of a strike partner for Billy. However, this mornings national press has woried me slightly.

Im not convinced there's any real substance though. Al players who score goals are going to be linked with other clubs throughout the summer. Its the only way us fans keep ticking over through the summer in the off season, bit of juicy transfer speculation.

My shortlist to partner Billy though would be:-

>Andy Keogh (re-uniting a proven prolific pairing)

>ALF. Should be available cheap with only 1yr left on his deal and has become frustrated at Rotherham. Starting on the bench alot too.

>Jason Euell. Shown he still wants to play the game to the best of his ability. Works hard.

>Chris Brown

>Jamie Mackie if not needed at QPR in Prem.

>Mateja Kezman

Anthony Elding from the recently relegated Stockport. Knows where the back of the  net is, injury free and a no-nonsense footballer - abit like John Oster as he too is from Boston. Never got a chance at Leeds either. Would love to see him at the KM.
