Keogh and Garner for Sharp?
« on June 14, 2011, 08:51:50 pm by Poshrover »
What are peoples thoughts IF Sharp went to Wolves and we got Keogh in exchange, and with the surplus cash, we bought Garner?

It is a 2 for one deal, and IF Billy goes it will be to a Premier club, (as JR has mentioned) and with our Wolves connections it could be possible.

Just a thought and a provoking question.  :scarf:

As I'm aware McCarthy demanded £2.5 million for Keogh last season, can't see them offering us much cash were this offer on the table, maybe 500k at tops. Also we have to remember Keogh's wages as well.

However were we posed with a straight swap for the two, I'd snap their hand off...

absolute madness - look at the stats for them. Billy Sharp got twice as many goals last season as Keogh and Garner put together. Garner played 16 gams for huddersfield and couldnt score, Keogh had loans at Cardiff and Bristol cut short and spent half the season injured. Swap for Brooker and Fairhurst maybe - swap for Sharp, get real.

Billy is not good enough for the premier league . there are multi-million pound deals done every year, and Billy is not going to be one of them , he IS worth what we paid for him but unfortunately there is too many good strikers who can't even get into their own first
team , If Sheff U couldn't use him and we know what happened to them, his chances in the BIG LEAGUE would or slim even for him, so i do not think a swop deal will do the trick. I think he will be loaned out first , then a move , I do not think we can afford him , or any one else with a high opinion of them self's either. Billy is playing the waiting game and hoping someone gets the urge to try him out, J/R and co will have already made up there mind to off load , and build a  team for the long term future. Loanees and new young blood are what i think will be the view, Billy is a luxury and we can not afford , and to keep a striker who has used up too much of the income that we sorely lack. It will be a hard season next year and staying up our main aim , we are real favourites for the drop so it has to be a stronger defence and a loan striker or two.

Not so sure.... Sheff Utd didn't use him properly because Blackwell was a complete berk of a manager...
Similar dinosaur to Cotterill and Allardyce. No room in football for hoofball anymore.

Billy is twice the player that Danny Graham and Steve Morison is.
Far more of a natural striker with a much better work rate.
We will keep him and provided he stays fit, he will go through the 20 goal mark and we will be getting £4m for him next summer.

We can afford him because JR & the Keepmoat two will have \"budgeted\" for him separately.

Yes, we probably are among the 5 favourites to be in a relegation battle, but get used to it. We are now the smallest team in the Championship. But if we stay sensible, we also have the least pressure.

How about adding them both to the squad and keeping Billy?

Keogh was loaned out last season as a shop window exercise by Wolves, he's surplus to requirements there but they wanted £2.5m for him. No club offered it and after the disaster of a season he had it's unlikely that he would command a fee anywhere near that.

Garner would have been a cheap option if mad Billy was still there but no shuper Shteve is in charge he may figure in their plans.

The question however is are we interested? Would it effect the quality of player we could afford for the defence?

Can't say I agree with the bold line up there...

Obviously Billy is a great striker, I'm not questioning that. He is probably better currently than both of them, he does shade it. But TWICE the player? I doubt it...

Morrison is a very good player, who did score 17 goals in all last campaign, and lets not forget that two years ago he was a stevenage borough player from the conference, and he is now going to ply his trade in the premiership. He has gone from conference to premiership because he deserves it, and not because he got lucky and Billy Sharp never.

Graham may not have a better scoring rate than billy in the last two seasons but he has gone through both season's without bieng injured. Billy has picked up an injury towards th end of the season in both of them with us. He can of course change that next year, but at the moment, stats speak for themselves.

I do hope however you are right and he does bag 20 goals next season.

I hear from a little bird in the club that Sharp has signed a new deal, is very happy and is going nowhere.......

Time to put these \"Billy to.......\" rumours to bed.

Love it now we need to build a squad. :) Apologies for changing the font size RTR but thought it was time the negatives on here got the picture, bought their ST's and became more positive about the club.;)

Thats the plan, Hoola.  SOD has been handed the largest player budget ever this season.  Work is going on behind the scenes to bring in the players we need.  Patience is required, as some of the negotiation is very delicate and other parties are interested.

On the contrary I wasn't suggesting he was going anywhere in my comments, but more of a hypothetical situation :P

That's brilliant news, I assume that means a contract extension as well, and more importantly we know who'se got the bloody pen.

I hate to pour water on your bonfire, but I reckon it's Billy's own pen.
He's so minted that he could afford a really expensive one.

And would he trust lending his pen to Dangerous Dave? I'm not so sure.

We need a reserve pen, capable of coming off the bench to change a contract decision our way.

Fantastic news surely this news should be announced to the masses? Surely it would be the news of the summer for us and would encourage season ticket sales? Although the down side to this could be that the players and teams demand more money.

How do we know that the \"Sharp signs extension deal...\" is correct? How do we know we are close to signing some players and talks are delicate? Are you that important that you are included in transfer talks? Is any of this based on fact.....or just... Some guy posts it on an internet forum and everyone snaps it up as gospel....

Or..is this more likely a case of someone pretending to be involved with players/Directors/SOD? Football seems to attract lots of people with these kinds of delusions for some reason. I'm happy to say I don't know JR, have never spoken to him, I don't know a single player, SOD, the pitch gardener, Donny Dog, The kit washer, ROK...anyone at all. To listen to some on here you would think 2352352345235 people work at the same gym as Coppingers girlfriend, 585858 people live next door to Sam Hird, and 9823645 people drink regularly with Billy Sharp!!

Let's face it, no-one on here knows anything more than anyone else......but we all hope for the right signings, the stadium to be bought etc etc. Let's not spread stories eh?

I hope we can add to the calibre of Billy with some good players and I appreciate this will be difficult. I also believe the Board should keep the season ticket at the price they are now no deadlines.Because if supporters are not buying now then they will not when the deadline goes.
Extend the spread payments so if you buy a season ticket in June/July then you have a deposit to pay and another three months to pay for it. You only release season tickets for how games they have paid for.
Example
Cat A £480 now so pay four payments of £120, so for every £120 you pay you get 6 tickets until you pay all the amount after the fourth payment. Then the rest of the tickets can be released.

You underestimate the importance of the VSC clearly, the link between Rob, Berkshire, Gartom et al doing work for the VSC and the board does exist, hence these things are found out.

Should be announced on the OS and in the media, largely as a statment of intent to prevent the selling club myth.

Gareth, RTR, Berkshire etc., are party to things that are told in confidence and it is a sign of the trust that JR puts in these guys and the VSC.

I'm sure there have been many occasions when in the interests of the fans morale, the temptation is to spread the news however, you know what it's like in football when things can change very quickly.

If JR says keep it under you hat for a while then I trust that's what will happen.

I'm pleased to hear anything from 'the horses mouth' as I can't see many other clubs having the link between us and the top like we have.

As long as that bond of trust is maintained then we only improve our chances of influencing decisions at the top on policy matters and this is where our backing for a strong Supporters Club/VSC is important.

I like DBR know Rob and Gartom personally, they both are people of integrity and are in the know on many things. I'm aware that Gartom in particular is in contact with JR on a regular basis so the information they give is not speculation or gossip.
