Rumours site says Sharp to Soton for £3mil

Southampton have agreed a £3m fee with Doncaster Rovers for striker Billy Sharp, this deal does NOT include Joseph Mills going the other way. Saints recently had a £2.8m bid rejected for him but after on-going negotiations with the Yorkshire club throughout the weekend, a deal has been struck for the 25 year old to move to the South Coast outfit.

Southampton defender Danny Seabourne is agreeing personal terms with Bournemouth after the Cherries had a £350k bid accepted which will rise to £700k if they win promotion.

Any possible truth in this or yet another bored and deluded Southampton fan looking forward to another season in League One?

Why would we accept that? It's already been said we couldn't replace him for that, and his family is settled here.

I'd be surprised if we accepted £3m from a divisional rival. I'm pretty sure that JR will refuse all offers from Championship teams unless the money being offered is out of this world (i.e going towards the £5m mark.)

If a Premier League team starts sniffing around, it may be a different story. I wouldn't begrudge him a move to the top flight though, to be honest.

He said he'd be stupid to deny himself a chance in the top flight. £3 million is a ridiculous amount for us to even considering accepting, £2.8 was no-where near what we would accept so why would a 200k improved offer change our minds, especially over the weekend?

However should this be true (which I highly doubt) it will be down to the directors begging us to accept to make a profit. However I doubt this is the case...

Plus, if JR wants to shift a load more season tickets, selling Billy at this stage wouldn't send out the right message.

No chance! Even if Mills came the other way i'd still like to think JR will stick to his guns. Not only that but as stated in many (many, many, many) threads Billy is happy here, settled in Donny, and the fact is they just aren't what he is wanting to aspire to.

I feel, and hope, that if Billy was to go, it'd only be premiership bound from him and nothing more. None of us can deny him that.


If ANY truth can come out of this it may be that Mills is on the way out or surplus to requirements?!?

You never know, maybe it will happen.  Doubt it though, sniff of a rumour and Southampton fans think it's a done deal (Brian Stock anyone?)

Interestingly, lots of rumours on that site that Mcindoe has agreed to join us, I hope this is the case, not only is he a useful player but I think he's a name a lot of Doncaster folk no and he'd appear as a big name to some fans, would be a profile signing I reckon.  I always said he'd have flourished under SOD and I reckon had Penney gone earlier (as he probably should have) Mcindoe would never have left.

I expect things to start moving this week, the likes of Sam Hird, Mcindoe etc won't be getting paid as of the end of the week so they need to make their minds up.  I expect Hird to leave, Chambers to stay and Sullivan, well I just don't know.  I expect Sulli was offered reduced terms and Chambers definitely was so that might make some difference.  Hird just didn't seem happy here last season and I doubt he'd be first choice, which would be why he'd leave.

Hird is staying. Just chatting to a mate down at the Keepmoat picking up our new ST books and relocating seats, and he had a lengthy conversation with Sam at the weekend.

Of course I'm paraphrasing but in essence, he said had another serious offer from Huddersfield but has opted to stay in the hope that SOD can rebuild a 'team/squad' rather than a fragmented mix of players.

He had some appearance-related fees due to him, so they weren't playing him to avoid shelling out, at least that's what I heard.

I reckon thats why Reading did'nt play Mills much in his first season there.
