Big clubs and delusions of granduer

Answers on a postcard chaps and lasses.

Which club that wallowed around the lower reaches of Division Three last season has decided that its players are such mega-stars that they deserve a pre-season training camp and tour in the Austrian Alps?

I thought the standard pre-season for players who were a gnat's knacker off Division Four standard was an afternoon in Gainsborough.

Sheffield Washday, perchance?

Nearly as good as Port Vale's tour of Canada!

Not saying we should be globetrotting but I always think our preseason seems a bit unstructured and planned at the last minute.

Maybe, but I think it is a big improvement on last season. If you look at what the players are saying on twitter the trip to Cumbria was a big success. Also, they're grumbling about being worked hard in training- which I'm delighted to hear!

Pre-season's about training hard and playing soft. Low key games are just what is needed to ease everyone in. And they're not messing about with any tournaments like last season's disastrous trip to Devon.

Interesting to note SOD's comments on it.  He could spend 50k on a training camp abroad or spend 10k on a training camp in England.  He'd rather not spend more.  I actually like others get the impression that they're pleased with how it's going.  What can you do footballing wise abroad that can't be done in Doncaster?  The Lakes given the weather recently were probably much tougher than abroad.

What for example do Forest gain from playing Spurs youth team in a friendly in Portugal that we won't get from playing Mansfield tonight?

The only disappointment is the lack of a home game.  Talk about baptism of fire when many of our players will get their first taste of the Keepmoat when they face West Ham at home.
