Want to know what's going on in the Free Press newsroom during the strike?

This blog entry will give you a few, unfortunate insights into the life of a strikebreaker...

And moderators, take pity on me and keep it on here. I'm poor you know.

The ball lies very much firmly in the court of Johnston Press.
The NUJ approached them last Wednesday with a view to getting ACAS to step in.
We were told yesterday - eight days later - that JP weren't prepared to go to ACAS - ie, eight days that could have been used to hold constructive and meaningful dialogue but weren't.
Ever since day one the NUJ has been open to talks and are more than happy to sit down to sort this out.
Rovers fans may wish to make their feelings known about the redundancy of Peter Catt and this week's copy (which gets Brian Stock and Ross Burbeary mixed up) to Free Press editor Graeme Huston.

There's more on the strike here
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-14400846

Believe you me, Paul and Liam, who do the Rovers coverage, are both ready and raring to go to give everyone the usual fantastic Rovers reports and insight in the Free Press they normally provide - but at the moment, while the strike continues, the coverage will be distinctly worse than what fans are used to.

Not strike breakers! they are SCABS! pure and simple!

Shame on Johnston Press for using them like this, very Thatcher like!

I'm not buying anything from this company until this dispute is sorted out. That is the action to take.
It's high time that both sides got together and sorted out the dispute. From experience there is almost always an element of 'six of one and 1/2 of the other' that prevents either side losing face.
SORT IT.

There are definitely many issues that need resolving. We just want to talk and get back to giving people a decent paper and decent Rovers coverage - but we need the proper resources, management and reassurances to be able to do that.

TBH I haven't noticed much difference in the paper since the strike. I was kinda hoping it would go downhill, but when it starts from sea level it was always going to be an uphill task.

I haven't bought it since the strike started, but I've been told pictures and headlines are bigger to fill the paper>

However reading the blog I have one area of some concern but I may be wrong

Ultimately it’s good to know Tom’s not doing the strikebreaking out of any anti-union ideology or because his dad has forced him into it. He informs everyone he is: “just thinkin of the dollar atm!\"

The lads on work experience and it appears he's being paid

There are loads of issues relating to the quality of the papers - picture specials, bigger headlines and space filling, non local features, mistakes aplenty - and this week a double page feature on thriving Rossington businesses which all looks very nice and positive - until you look at the corrections column on page two and it turns out it is actually pretty much an apology for saying they'd closed thanks to a clanger in last week's edition. There are also regular features missing - it might look rosy on the surface but don't believe it.

Trained eyes would have picked up the fact that Brian Stock had been mixed up with Ross Burbeary - the back page would have been about the signing of Giles Barnes and the other two yesterday - not focusing on the old news of Ryan Mason and a proper pre-match preview with SOD's comments.

As for what's going on inside, obviously we don't really know - we just know that lots of readers HAVE noticed a difference - and they're telling us on the streets.

If the lad who happens to be someones son is on work experience  and is being paid surely that is illegal, He seems to intimate that he is!

We don't know what the arrangement is or how much or if he is being paid unfortunately. That post would certainly seem to suggest so though wouldn't it?

I only query it cos my lads just done his work experience and admittedly he got a 10 quid gift token at the end better than nowt but the lads comment seems to suggest a bit more and shows what the managements really like ..............and believe me weve got issues with  firm I work for!

This whole situation is a car crash waiting to happen.  Don't hang around JP for much longer, its down the pan in a few years.  Find another job ASAP is my take on this.

They're clearly a load of a***holes - and their kids are worse.

Us and them I am afraid
