I found myself closing my eyes as the final result came through today, trying to ignore the fact of 19 winless games, but I'm finding it very difficult to block out.

Frosty if you happened to read this weeks Free Press John Ryan did have an article coming out admitting that times were tough. But it didn't state any plans for the future.

I want to make a post backing the team and manager, but I'm struggling to write a reason to go along with it. Once again the day before the season started the fans expected far too much from the squad and the signings, expecting every one to be of top quality.

Mustapha Dumbuya is many people's faviourite player, that is how bad our situation has come. He is fast, but apart from that he doesn't offer anything else to the squad, and like Coppinger became over rated far too quickly after a couple of decent games and now the expectations for these players has gone through the roof.

Billy Sharp has just about a 1 goal in 2 game ratio for the club, will that save us from relegation? How can we rely on his return when 18 maximum goals from him will not keep us up.

People talk about investment, and most realists on here concede that it is unlikely to happen, but the money was there when the fans wanted Billy, and look where that decision has landed us? As BST has mentioned on a similar thread there was a choice between Billy or a strong CB who could have gave us that basic foundation needed on the back. Look what £3 million could have done in the summer when Southampton came knocking, yet the board did what the fans wanted and was not budged by the big money offer. We don't have our striker and still no extra cash.

Buying Billy was not an essential investment, but I fear that the injecrtion needed now is. All Coppinger, Naylor and Oster aren't exactly the youngest and I can't see them doing much in next season's league one if we were to go down. I don't expect Sharp or Bennet to stay either.

I think we all can agree that the clubs best level of performance in the Championship was when we had Jay emmanuel Thomas, Shackell and Ward. 2 of them are CB's and one is an attacking midfielder, we currently are in dire need of both, the loan signing of Mason hasn't paid off yet and heres hoping he is a huge sucess when he comes back, but putting even more pressure to the injured list in only gonna force the management to rush them back and risk them further injury.

Investment is needed, starting with the medical department, and exposing the loan market big time to get our season back on track. Just out of curiousity, who here donated to the \"Loan Star\" funding campaign and is 100% happy with the loan stars brought in?

If anything this bad run of form has gave many a reality check, but gave even more morons an excuse to rise expectations. Now before the fixture list came out if I had been told that we would lose to West Ham and Forest at home, and Reading, Derby, Brighton and Cardiff away would we all find thst surprising? it's only because these have been game after game that people are getting bored of it and blaming everyone.

I would have been more dissapointed if I was a Arsenal fan and sold some huge players in the summer and not replaced them with Champions league signings. We never sold anyone huge in the summer yet we still found the cash to improve the squad. But the resources we operate with in this league is not enough, that much is apparent. I think it's time the VSC pointed out these issues to the board, who are already aware probably. But I don't think they are aware that even though the money they spend is pocket money to them, it's quite a substantial amount the average working man spends on the Rovers per annum. It's our club too, and at the moment I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel even if we do go down...

At last, a voice of reason.

Thing is, not one of them HAS to put any more money in. Didn't someone work out that if Bramall had put a million pounds into the club then relatively speaking it would be the same as a guy with £50,000 buying a season ticket!!

Anyway. The board have been shite compared to other championship boards. But even the clubs with naff all money are laughing at us (peterbrough anyone?).

Bye bye Championship.

I worked out if Bramall covered our three million shortfall, in percentage terms it was a lot LESS than someone earning 25k a year buying a season ticket.

10 million in percentage terms would equate to a season ticket.

I think its too late now though. The board had all summer, but as I understand, it was the board who vetoed the signing of Murphy from Scunthorpe as they weren't willing to fund it.

I've been thinking about this as well - not sure how you get to your figures though.

Bramall is apparently worth £500 million.

I assume this is overall wealth (property, investments, bits of companies he owns) rather than his monthly paycheck having £41 million on it. So TB liquidates everything and in his pants is worth £500 million.

Your Average Rovers Fan on £25k a year takes home £19.5K. He liquidates house, car etc and gets maybe £100k, giving £120k stood in his pants.

He spends £400 on a season ticket, and another £500 quid on away games (10 at £25 a ticket and £25 travel, beer, food) or £900 a year.

This means he's spending about 0.75% of his entire worth on Rovers a year.

Apply this to Bramall he 'should' be putting in £3.75 million a year (which is a moot point as it's apparently nowt)

JR on the other hand to be putting in £2 million he does a year would have to be worth about £266 million to match Mr Average Rovers Fan, which he patently isn't.

His family sold their stake in Keepmoat for £563m in 2007...so if he liquidated everything he's probably worth even more.

The entire Keepmoat group was (of which Mr Watson was part) was sold for £783m

This squad needs investment NOW! failure to do so will lead to relegation!

We have been cast adrift after 7 games, we can`t carry on about injuries, bad luck, bad refs etc. The fact is this squad is out of their depth ACT NOW OR BE RELEGATED! the onfield squad is not good enough and the admin at the club is a joke!

As a player, O'Driscoll was a midfielder for Fulham (1979–84) and Bournemouth (1984–95). He also won three caps for the Republic of Ireland. When he retired in 1995, he had played a club-record 423 league games for Bournemouth (the record has since been broken by Steve Fletcher), and subsequently joined the club's coaching staff. In August 2000, he was appointed manager, and despite limited financial resources, achieved good results, including promotion via the Third Division play-offs in the 2002–03 season.

In 2006, after 22 years at Dean Court, he left the club to become manager at Doncaster Rovers.

He made a rather steady start to his career at Belle Vue, including many draws. Notable events early in his career with Doncaster include a 4–0 victory away at Brentford, winning the manager of the month award for January 2007, and also overseeing Rovers' 3–2 success over Bristol Rovers in the Football League Trophy final in 2007. This success meant that O'Driscoll had achieved the rare feat of managing two different teams to victory at the Millennium Stadium.

In O'Driscoll's first full season in charge, 2007–08, he steered Doncaster to promotion into the Championship after a 1–0 victory over Leeds United in the League One play-off final at Wembley Stadium. The following season, 2008–09, saw his side initially struggle to adapt to the demands of the Championship, but they ended up 14th, comfortably clear of relegation

Berkshire the players we have are not good enough for this league, the funds which JR and the board provided is not enough. Year on year the board failed to improve the squad. We required a goalkeeper and centre half in the summer and we could not afford it. We signed players on short term contracts because they were not fit enough. We signed players with potential but could not get regularly in the sides they were playing for. We could only afford to spend £280,000 on transfer fees. We are dire because we are relying some players who were at their best two years ago, Coppinger, O'Connor, Stock, Oster. We have other players with bad injury records. So if JR is disappointed then he should have realised before the season started this is were we would be. The manger may have his problems one of them is a chairman who wants to be idealised by his fans yet failing to back this manager with the players to succeed in this league.

Well the board have spoken tonight on radio Sheff. In a nut shell SOD is the right man for the job and won't be going anywhere. Is that the dreaded vote of confidence? I am not sure but JR sounds like he has full faith in our leader.
