I think you're all looking too far into it, it's just football banter.

I was born in Leicester, raised in Retford, went to Uni in Nottingham, lived in Donny for 6 years and now live in Lichfield. All my family are Sheffield Wednesday fans. My link is tenuous to say the least, are you saying I shouldn't be allowed to support DRFC?

I think everyone's missing the point here- just as the irony of the \"Donny Whites\" singing \"we support our local team\" is lost on those poor misguided souls.
