Doncaster Rovers are set to name Wrexham's Dean Saunders as their new manager, BBC Sport has learned.

Sources at the club have revealed the news less than a day after chairman John Ryan strongly denied Sean O'Driscoll would be sacked.

Rovers are seeking a first Championship win and are bottom of their league.

On Wednesday, Ryan said: \"I've never responded to hotheads who want to sack somebody, I don't think it's ever worked, look at Sheffield United.\"

O'Driscoll is the longest-serving manager in the Championship with five years at the helm of Doncaster.
Saunders has seen Wrexham survive in the Blue Square Bet Premier in the face of financial difficulties and they lie second in the table after a strong start to the season.

BBC Radio Sheffield understands O'Driscoll has been placed on gardening leave and Saunders' first game will be against Crystal Palace, who the Rovers host on Saturday.
