Do we have what it takes
« on October 18, 2011, 09:24:01 pm by MrFrost »
To get out of this?
It is becoming increasingly obvious we are severaly lacking, especially in midfield.
Gillett isn't good enough
Oster isn't good enough
Stock shows glimpses but isn't anywhere near his old self.
Coppinger looks a shadow of the player he was.

Saunders has brought in three players so far.
Kirkland - played one game and he's injured. Who knows if he will figure again.
Chimbonda - We already know he will be leaving in the near future
Illunga - here til January

We know we don't have the money to invest in long term squad additions that have real quality at this level, so are these bit part players actually going to make a difference? They will take time to gel, and when they do, it might be time for them to leave.

Saunders should have been brought in in the close season and given time to mould a squad of his own, and get his ethos of playing installed into the players. We are swimming against the tide now and the odds are against us.

Nail biting times ahead.

To be fair to Saunders, it is very difficult to bring make substantial changes until the window opens in January. I didn't go but a mate of mine who was there phoned me to say we played decent, passing football and dominated two-thirds of the game (yes, I know, it sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it?) It makes me think that perhaps the Leeds game was an aberration.

He also said that the goal was scored in the fifth minute of four minutes stoppage time which in itself was hardly justified.

I said I wouldn't comment on tonight's performance having not been to the game, but from what I've heard there were a lot of positives to take from it.

To lose so late is a big blow, but we have managed to go to Blackpool, cause them problems and create chances that could have won us the game. That gives far more hope to take away than the Leeds debacle on Friday.

I think we have enough to get out of trouble. We are a long long way from dead and buried. Having Sharp back in the team and in amongst the goals will be a big boost to our survival chances.

Edit - a winning goal in the 5th minute of 4 is sickening really. The statisticians will just mark it down as a defeat and have nothing more to say on it, but I'd prefer to look at it in context and it sounds to me like there were positives in our performance tonight. Dare I say to lose like that is cruel and unfortunate in the circumstances.

Thats good to hear about how we played, and it goes with the commentary tonight. Until they scored it sounded like we were back to near our best form. Am sure the players will have taken a lot from it, especially Billy. At least the performance was good, eh ;)
