Hi Cas and Hamilton -- I've found a picture online of Odin's Celtic programme:

http://www.celticprogrammesonline.com/PROGRAMME%20COVERS/5253/doncaster/doncasterrovers5253f.htm

This game attracted a 14,841 crowd, shortly after Rovers had achieved a marvelous win at Craven Cottage -- Rovers were second bottom of D2 and Fulham were challenging for promotion. Interestingly, our previous home D2 game v West Ham only attracted 10,600.

Against Celtic, Jimmy Lawlor (2) and Bert Tindill scored the goals.

This was one of Doherty's famous floodlight friendlies.

We were years ahead of most other clubs in England regarding floodlit football! Then has now we were trailblazers! The previous March Rovers had staged the first ever floodlit game outside London, when over 18,000 came to see them play Hibernian at BV.

The idea to install floodlights was Doherty's. He had witnessed a baseball game played under lights in the late 1940s, when he was on tour in the US with Derby during the late 1940s, and was wholly intrigued. However, the Rovers had staged a floodlit game in Doncaster as early as the late 1880s, on the Green House fields on Armthorpe Road, on the location where the Cumberland Pub stands today.

In fact, when I was a yoof, the Cumberland was called the Green House pub!

I penned an article in the Rovers programme sometime between 1984-88 regarding Rovers rich floodlit history. On a personal note I recall FA Cup runners-up Preston North End refusing to play under Rovers aging lights in 1964 in a League Cup tie, so the match had to kick off at 6:30 pm -- but we beat them 1-0 thanks to a King Alick Goal. Also recall biking to BV in the summer of 1965 to watch new floodlight pylons being erected!

Fascinating stuff. I have a programme from the Hibernian game. Hibs were Scottish Champions at the time and had one of the best forward lines in Britain at the time. They beat Rovers 3-0.

Odin- I think your programme will be worth a fair bit, especially if it is in good condition. You would probably get a decent price on ebay, or if you wanted to give it away I'm sure someone from the VSC would be happy to set up an online raffle- with the proceeds going to the Luey Sharp fund perhaps?
