Billy's Sharp's Charity
« on December 01, 2011, 05:23:58 pm by graingrover »
If this is separate from the donations we have alreday made via VSC ... could we not make a new request for donations to this very specific charity to show that  our support for Billy and his family is right behind JR's and Rovers'

\" Billy Sharp says \" The Chairman has  been brilliant in helping me do this and I can't thank him enough. Equally I can't thank the fans enough for the support that they give me both on and off the pitch and whatever they do donate on Saturday I want to say that I am really grateful.'3

Brian,

when we launched the appeal throught he website, we said that we would talk to Billy and donate the money to where he wants it to go.

So far through donations, the e-bay auction and donating proceeds from the hospitality box, the VSC has raised c. £1,000

There are other events planned including a sponsored run and a sponsored parachute jump (in aid of the hospice that cared for Luey).

People can still donate through the link on the website, and we will make sure it goes to the right place.

As ever, forum users have dug deep and made a generous contribution already.

So we have raised 1k on here.

I spoke to someone who said Wednesdays race night raised almost 2k.

I estimate Saturdays collection will raise 3 or 4k.

Great effort.

The racenight was great billy took time with the kids photos and signing shirts etc, he sold his boots from tuesdays match for £350, a signed training top for over £50.
Martin woods was also there and can see why he's not played for ages due to a groin issue. as he's currently going out with lindsey strutt (model from nuts & zoo) although his groin can't be that bad as she's pregnant..
Asked about things and he said how drfc have really stood by him through the bad times and he's so thankful, asked about ipswich he just said\" why would i go there they lost lastnight\" ..

I've got £180 from sales of the last fanzine to donate to the Charity Billy is establishing too, as and when.

Berkshire, if you get word from Billy where he wants it to go, let me know and I'll get a cheque written out.

I am going to run from Bramall Lane to the Keepmoat at some point next year when I can sort out a date to raise money for the fund. It's pretty much dead on 20 miles if anyone fancies joining me! Hoping to do it the morning before a home match (possibly Peterborough or Derby) to take advantage of the shower facilities at the Keepmoat when I've finished.

Dave,

We'd like to build on your idea and we want to see if we can get more people involved even if they only do a lap or two of the athletics track on the same day.

Sounds good, I will be training for the London Marathon which is on 22nd April so a 20 mile run will be perfect preperation for me whenever it is decided to do it. I think the Derby match on the 17th March is probably a good one to aim for, just over 3 months to try and get people involved and the weather will probably be a bit better by then as well. I have driven the route from Bramall Lane to the Keepmoat and there are footpaths the whole way (it's a bit hilly though!) so shouldn't have to worry about getting run over anyway!

We'll put that to the club and see what we can sort out.

Perhaps alongside Dave's longer run, we could also organise a shorter one for those of us who couldn't manage 20 miles.  I used to run competitively but we my health aint up to scratch for that far    But I'd definitely like to do something, 20 miles might just take a bit too long, though I could do it, possibly, but it'd be more of a walk for some of us, maybe even walking that distance would be a goer?

I was speaking to Dave last night and mentioned walking it... No good at running but walking 20 miles would be a good warm up for the Moonwalk in May (powerwalking the London Marathon through the night), so I would be up for it.

Saying that, my main fundraising focus will be on jumping out of a plane for Martin House in May!
