Allow me to explain my theory as I seem to have stirred 1 hornet nest.

Most appearances all last season in an unprecedented season of woes and injuries from the turn of the year was surprise surprise Oster. As you brought the legend that is Billy into this, he was some way short of starts in comparison.

Yes, they all contributed in their own ways in the role they perform for the team.

Yes, Oster can be mardy, yes his off field antics may leave question marks, yes he cannot tackle or lacks heading prowess. But in the old system when all the first team players were around him he was very good in that machine. His strengths were his control, ability to pick a pass, his movement with or without the ball, his ability to carry the ball, his ability to quicken up the attack, his ability to buy himself time with a little jink or feign of a body swerve and above all else his link play for all the other players were extremely good. In short some may call him a footballers footballer and I would also call him an O' Driscoll player. Bear in mind if he could do all the things he clearly lacks and add them to his positive attributes he would not have been a Rovers player.

Now bringing it right back to last season. He was there and heavily involved in the good times pre Xmas. He was also there and worked his nuts off post Xmas when all the others weren't. Post Xmas, he used to come off that pitch lathered in sweat and sometimes looked frustrated. For me he was putting in a grafting shift, trying to get the team to play it's normal way in very difficult times when all around was not how it should be, but by injury circumstance.

For me and those reasons he must have been well up there for player of the SEASON.

In current times, he looked OK when he came on v Notts County. He was off it v Hull....but as said he's come back from a long term injury for crying out loud. Personally, I'm not sure on his role in the new set up and if he will hold down a place.
