Gary Megson
« on May 01, 2012, 01:21:39 am by nice one rovers »
Did anyone else notice Mr Megson on Saturday? He was in the Prawn Sandwiches Taking notes all the way through the game, left about 15 minutes from the end. If I had asked him what he was up to, I think he would have either said that he was scouting for players for someone, or that he is due to be named as our new manager. Also, did anyone else notice that Deano wasn't in the big parade after the match?

Lee Clarke was also at the game according to some. I wouldn't read too much into it though.

I'll let you off then

I think Megson was spotted at a another game recently. Not sure who he'd be scouting for unless he was researching for Late Kick Off or something. Quite a few unemployed local managers have been seen at the Keepmoat in the last month!

He was definitely there, interesting that quite a few managers have been present recently, suggests to me some feelers have been put out by the club.  But then JR has backed Saunders too it seems at the awards etc so perhaps unlikely.

J.R. backed S.O'd the day before they text-dumped him too.

Lee Clark that'd be nice!! Unfortunately I guess they're just scouting. Don't think we could get rid of Saunders and co if they're all on 3 year deals, especially when we're a mil over budget already.

I saw Keith Millen a few times when I went. I guess they are just scouting for people or keeping in the know for when they get a new job.

2+2 = quite a lot sometimes.

The pool of unemployed football managers is quite large, I'm told in the region of 45/50. Expect Mark Hughes to join that list soon.

Public backing and costs of contract termination are no reason to believe the manager won't be changed, if the past is to be used as a guide.

Is a year only 7 month in duration now?

His contract was until the end of the 2014 season so it was around 2 years 8 months in length, which was rounded to 3 years.

Now then, clever arse. Why would we give a manager a contract which expires one month into a season?

I don`t know, you tell me, it was reported at the time that he`d been given a 3 year contract, that was 7 months ago, so it would be reasonable to assume that he has 2 years and 5 months remaining on that contract, unless you have evidence to the contrary and if so I`ll stand corrected, but for now I`ll just be a clever arse

Ok, you are right. Despite the fact that contracts in football always run until the close season, Saunders will be with us up to the 7 game point of the 2014/15 season.

Really? Giles Barnes ran out in January and was then given an extension, Diouf and Chimbonda were initially given a short term contract expiring mid season, Naylors contract expired mid season, not always eh?

They were short-term playing contracts. I've never heard of a manager on a long-term contract due to expire one month into a season. Having said that, given the farcical manner in which Saunders arrived, anything is possible.

Filo, if you know how football works at all then you will know you are being daft here.

It's not much of a headline is it, "Saunders signs on 2 years, 7 month contract". Football contracts are worked out to end at the end of a season in the summer, and if they are short term playing contracts then would either go to January (half a season) or would be 2-3 month deals usually. Saunders contract does not run out in September of 2014.
