Done deal according to Seth Bennett on twitter. Can we get shot of woods as well. The ratio of wage to games played is piss poor value for money for both of these players.

So much for him "wanting to end his career with us" then. Is it me or should that not include any division we are in especially after the club have both help to resurrect his career which was going no where until sod signed him from Preston and then rivers have also stood by him on all the Injuries he has had.

The only benefit we can gain from this is that there should be a fee and step 1 in reducing wages so hopefully deano will approach one of the lads released and get another player in but on less money

Bit harsh on back of rumour!

Maybe but it just proves that we should take anything someone says in football wih a pinch of salt seeing as there always seems to be a hidden agenda. I have a feeling his rumour is true though as its v rare that paulrover has posted something like this. I would be b v surprised if copps was not the next to go if I'm honest because he article in the star is almost a shout of

"hey everyone (well paul jewell) don't forget that I'm still here and waiting for your call and offer"

Sinical of me? Yes but I think we have to take that approach sometimes to avoid being disappointed and thinking that the players put rovers first and not themselves and families

I reckon people do not realise how much the club will want to move atleast 1 or 2 players on,not only to cut the wages to something more even for league one,but some of the new signings(and any signings in near future) will not be impressed with  the difference with their wages and the previous championship wages paid to the old school.Look at the rumours of discontent when we signed King Billy?
Im not saying we will be desperate to offload, but if we can move 1 or 2  on,then the better it is in the longer period.
The point Im making is,Im sure Stocky would be happy to stay,if Rovers told him we are desperate for him to stay,But lets be honest, the club are in a situation for them to be happy to transfer him, especially if we get a fee aswell.

Not that I want to know his incomings, but do we know a rough wage he is on? Also, how long is left on his contract?

It would be nice to get a bit of a fee for him and not sell for next to nowt. Although anyone who gets him will know our situation and come in low anyway.

It's a sad day when Rovers fans say they are glad Stocky is leaving, but I guess the circumstances are such that trimming the wage bill is of paramount importance.

Maybe one of the big earners leaving will allow us to keep one of the others (Copps)?

I'd be happy to see all the high earners move on,  good as these players are, I'm not sure many of them are worth the fees they get paid and we certainly should live within our means.  The events at other clubs prove we need to be prudent more than ever.

He does n`t mention a done deal at all, in fact below is the only direct reference to Stock

#drfc I think if stock to #burnley is going to happen, it will be this week. I sure Rovers will let him walk to get him off the wage bill.

The only thing I dont understand is why Burnley would wait three years to sign him, considering he was a better player then and we were never going to hold out for a massive transfer sum.

That said, the kids are settled in a school in Goole and the family as a whole are settled, so there's nothing to say staying here wouldn't be putting his family first. Anyway, would he want to go from being an idol here to being under big pressure to perform elsewhere when he's as inconsistent as he can be?

On that note, I wouldn't begrudge him a final big payday after what he's done for this club.

Paul Goodwin ‏@paulgoodwinDFP
Picked up a few #drfc bits & bobs today, I'll share in full come Thurs. My  :headbang:understanding is there's  nothing in the Stock to Burnley rumour.
So it looks like its not  true. Interesting. I do think we will struggle to get Stock off the wage bill. He will be on a lot here and alot of clubs are cutting back.

Great servant to the club Stocky is or will have been if he moves, the squad and team he was an integral part of has been dismantled. Saunders has to stamp his own mark as bad as I think that will be. If Saunders manages to eclipse O'Driscoll's achievements I'll be the first to prostrate my worthless carcass at his feet. Alas, not only is he incapable, he is also handicapped by players he would otherwise offload to free up capital for his style of player and I include Copps in that. Most people say they will embrace change when it's needed, including me. But we very rarely accept the practicalities of it. Whatever Stock does, he is now part of Rovers folklore. Captain of a side that got us back into the 2nd tier and scuffed a grubby free kick into the net at Bellend road to humble Leeds. Ahhh........nostalgia!

According to his wife this morning (at Doncaster Tennis Club) nothing has been decided yet with Burnley but they have been talking.

Sorry, why?

For all we know it was meant to be Friday and there was a blip in the talks or they hit a snag with something else.

I doubt Stock wants to move so it may just be rumour talk as his injured back is well known , so I doubt,  if true that any money changes hands. And as for Woods he needs to build his future again with a team that can afford to carry him because the Rovers can't .

If he really wanted to stay i'm sure they would oblige him with a pay-cut,after all he was one of the squad who got us relegated!! :scarf:
