Number 9s
« on July 26, 2012, 07:57:17 pm by wardy16 »
Ive been asked to write an article about Rovers best and worst number 9s.

I can think of recent ones such as Akinfenwa and Paul Barnes but I don't know of any from the past such as the 60s or 70s etc.

If anyone knows of any I'd be grateful of any help!

Thanks  :scarf:

Activating brain, nearly as old as some of these players.

Clarrie Jordan, Ray Harrison, Alex Tait and Tony Leighton. I'll try to keep the old matter going but I seem to think in the old days we didn't have many typical No 9's we seemed to get more goals from an old fashioned five man front line.

Terry (Tracy) Austin, one of the worst players ever to play for Rovers, early 1980's. I see he is now a financial adviser - he should know about that because he robbed a living from us.

Your right 1951, we got Colin Booth and a winger in a deal from Forest. We also had Jimmy Fernie who sometimes wore number nine but more often played on the right wing.

Johnny Nibloe died in a road accident I seem to remember. I think he came from Sheffield, eirther the Blades or Owls.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned little Alfie Hale.
He actually played for Ireland during his stay with us.
I think that John Nibloe signed for us from Stoke City but had played for Sheffield United.
He was still doing national service when he came.
