I`ve got to say, Saunders words that he wants him to stay, will look pretty empty if he allows him out on loan, any loan fee will be peanuts, I can`t see Barnsley paying 100% of his wages, so he`ll not be off the books and we`ll more than likely be paying out wages that are proportional to the rest here for a player we can`t bring into the team when injuries and suspensions start to bite. Then there`s the chance he`ll suffer an injury, maybe even a serious injury, he`s got over 2 years on his contract left, he could get a serious injury playing for some one else and we get stuck with paying him for those 2 years. For me, if he has to go then it has to be a permanent deal, not a loan, and especially not to those inbreds down the road, I`d sooner give him away to Hull than take a risky loan deal on!

When I first heard this rumour,I thought,Maybe they are using Barnsley as a threat to others, that if they don't come up with something concrete soon,we will loan him to Dingles instead?

I don't think him leaning on a loan will have anything to do with Saunders. It's the board that deals with offers for players.

Correction, it will be the CEO, not the Board, however, Saunders will have an input in any decision that is made, and all the signs are that despite his words to the contrary, he wants rid

I don't think its more to do with the lure of Championship football than Saunders wanting rid.

Copps has said from day one he wants to play in the championship. Plus I don't think the CEO will be deciding solely on who is sold I'm sure the board as a whole will discuss each offer along with Gavin.

If he goes to Barnsley = Saunders wanted rid
If he goes to Hull, Ipswich *Any other championship club* = it was the lure of Championship football.

I'm getting the hang of this.

There is contrasting reports though:
Nothing from DRFC
Paul Walker tweets loan move to be completed to Barnsley tomorrow
Barnsley media bloke tweets something along the lines of many clubs in for him, not a done deal.

Reds manager Keith Hill, also keen on young Manchester City utility player Jeremy Helan and seeking to boost his threadbare squad ahead of Saturday’s Championship encounter at Brighton, said: “We’ve made an enquiry about James and we’ll have to see what happens. Hopefully, we can do something by the weekend.”

It is about time somebody slapped Paul Walker in the mouth.  He continues to think football in South Yorkshire is all about him and his opinions.  Have you every tried to have a conversation on football heaven with him, you don't get a word in if you don't agree with him. :rtid:

Its called "spin" and its what journalists do.

Lets consider the facts....

1) the squad is paper thin so Dean needs more players
2) Copps is probably our highest earner

Options....

1) Sell Copps
2) Loan Copps out on our terms (maybe the loaning club pay his wages with an option to buy in the Jan window else he comes back)
3) Copps decides to stay, see out his career with us, and offers to take a pay cut to fund a couple more player wages?
4) Copps stays and we dont have the money for any more players (dont want to think about that last bit)

I think without a shadow of a doubt Copps has been warming the bench as his future is uncertain and getting crocked would scupper at least 2 of those options above.  If he stays either by choice or because no one wants to come in for him, then he will play a bigger part, I am sure.
