Copps getting off bus
« on September 03, 2012, 09:03:02 am by Donnyjim »
Was this really necessary? He had to get off at taunton at 1630 on friday. The loan window window is still open for another 2moro weeks ffs. Surely this could have waited til monday.

I think it is to do with the length of the loan. If you sign somebody when the loan window re-opens it can only be for a certain amount of time..ie not as long as Jan.

Its the buying club who call the shots and if SO'D wanted him off the bus and on his way to Nottingham to sign up then that's what happens.

You can only have emergency loans of up to 91 days outside the transfer window. They wanted him on loan to January 2nd so it had be done before the window closed.

That depends on how desperate you are to get rid, and no club was buying

Dave, are you saying we forced him off the bus and made him make his way to Nottingham?

No I`m not, as I understand it, Copp`s agent, Sean Mcdaid, phoned Copps up to inform him that Forest wanted him, Copps then had a word with Saunders and he was allowed to leave the Coach at Strensham services, what I`m saying is Copps is contracted to us, Saunders would have been well within his rights to say sorry but it`s too late no and it`s interfering with our pre match plans, but because we seemed desperate to get rid we allowed SOD and Forest to call the shots, they would have known full well that the team were on a long coach journey, they could have made that enquiry in the morning before the team set off. What I also believe, (and the SOD lovers won`t like this) is that this was a way of SOD getting back at the club, disrupting our match preparations, I belive he was bitter about his sacking, I also believe that Copps knew that SOD would come in for him at the last minute a few weeks ago, hence his decision to turn Barnsley down a week ago

But if ultimately the club wanted Copps off the wage bill then hasn't SOD done us a favour? And if the club wanted to refuse they could have.

I don't buy the Barnsley theory, that was turned down as it was more of a cover loan with them having injuries. He could have gone there and been on the bench come October. I'm not convinced he would have known SOD was coming in for him, other threads on this board suggested it may have been SOD coming in for Bennett - maybe he only moved for Copps after being rebuffed for KB? He may well be bitter and I agree with you on a lot of things but I'm not buying that theory.

Filo, who do you blame for 9/11? I'm sure you'll be able to come up with a good conspiracy theory.

Copps 'favourited' a couple of tweets about him moving to Forest several weeks ago, and one eagle eyed Rover pulled him up on it and he had a bit of a barney with them on Twitter.

I reckon this move has been on the cards since O'Driscoll took over there, and is the reason he turned down Barnsley.

I think that is a poor point Filo about SOD being bitter (and since we don't know the full details of his sacking I don't think you can call him bitter) , we shot ourselves in the foot with this one, for the entire window the message coming out of our club is that we cannot improve the squad until we move players on, the clubs that were interested were always going to come in last minute and leave us with no time left to replace until the loan window reopens. Someone also bidded for Kyle Bennet, had we said yes and allowed him to leave we would have also been left with no one to replace him and unless the bidding team was Forest (although i have no idea) would you put that down to being bitter?

Liverpool didn't have enough time to replace Carroll in the end, is that down to Big Sam somehow being bitter?

No that's down to Liverpool's owners appointing a useless t**t.

I agree with Filo, I think this move has been on the cards for ages and was left until the last minute to cause maximum disruption. Shame that I think it didn't work, as I think DS expected it, hence why Copps has been on the bench.

Liverpool did have time to replace Carroll, the owners and John Henry in particular has said that he wants the football club to be run properly and on a more sound financial basis and not making panic buys. (Maybe they are learning from Doncaster Rovers!)

As for you not accepting that SOD is bitter. Well you would say that wouldn't you? You being a SOD fan and DS not being exactly your favourite Rovers Manager.

Clubs like Doncaster Rovers see the loan system as an extension of the transfer window, and for a League 1 club that's not such a bad thing when you have potentially 44 clubs in a higher league than yourself all with spare players and capacity.

Liverpool don't have that luxury. That could well be classed as incompetence.

When was someone not bitter after getting the sack?! In SoD's view he was doing his best with what he was given by the board, he expressed his opinions openly of what the immediate chances of success were and promptly got the sack -  i dare say most of us would be on the bitter side too!

Sean may have been bitter about the way he was put on gardening leave and released from his job. But that's in the past now. He has moved on to a club with a larger crowd base, history of success at an higher level and now with new owners who have the money and prepared to back his player choices. So he wanted Copps at a loan price that suited both clubs that's business in football. If the club had said Copps could not go out on loan then that would be a different matter. Let's concentrate our thoughts on our team and players now. Dean still needs extra players on loan or free and lets hope he can get them for the right price to suit our financial constraints.
