Hope they can get revenge over Barrow after they did the most blatant job on Paul Cooke that you'll ever see! Took him out straight from the kick off, off the ball, 3 seconds in,  scandalous!!

Reminds me of the best sports foul I have ever seen, even to this day. Must have been 30-odd years ago at Tattersfield. The plodding centre for the Dons (I think it was probably Ian Fortis, but I'm not sure) made a break through the opponents' fist line as was homing in on the try line. He side-stepped the full-back, who instinctively threw up an arm and caught Fortis under the chin.

I swear, Fortis's head stopped and his body and legs came up horizontal to 5 foot off the ground. He was carried off unconscious. Mind, he played the next week.

Second best one was an opponent tackling Neil Turner in full-flight and breaking his arm from the impact.

Lol! Although it can't be right, my memory says that an ambulance rolled up at Tattesrfield every single match!  Ambo, ambo, ambo! Stopping Tony Banham was an art form all on its own too. Best value for money sport I have ever, ever, ever witnessed were the Dons back then..

Bob.

Agreed. My first media claim to fame was that Tony Banham looked up at me, winked and said "Ta mate" As I was screaming his name after he got the winning touchdown against Huyton in the match that made Another Bloody Sunday THE finest piece of sports fly-on-the-wall reportage in world history.

I used to count down the seconds every week until I could be at Tattersfield again. Going to see Bobby Owen and Dick Habbin prance about of a Satdi afternoon didn't really cut it compared to seeing proper mesters slugging it out of a Sunday.

Such a shame that Murdoch's dollar f**ked the sport up.

Yes Billy Stubbs, I agree with you about Murdoch. In fact I was given a dressing down by the Chairman of  Hunslet for sending a letter to his friend Maurice Lindsay saying just that when I was Club Secretary at Hunslet. Maurice and my Chairman were big Friends as both were bookies.
I think your right about Ian Fortis, although the hardest man the Dons ever had was Bernie Asquith. He once got sent off for poleaxing an opposition forward and as he was walking off he laid one on the winger, his thought was, what else can they do, I'm going off anyway.

Was Maurice Lindsay gay? He had that idiosyncratic northern camp way of talking din't he?

Nothing homophobic going on. I just wondered why he allowed himself and the sport to be buggered by a butch Australian Alpha Male.

Someone I knew who worked in the media and covered rugby league implied that Lindsay was gay, although not "out."

There were many rumours Billy Stubbs, and secondly MONEY, the word which has also ruined many other sports, but especially the Amateur side of the Olympics.

I really enjoyed the Dons game when I went a few weeks back on many different levels compared to the football and it's likely I'll take in a few more games next season.

Whilst we're on the subject of Team Doncaster, can we send Kyle Bennett to train with the Dons for a week to toughen him up a bit??
