Team v Blades
« on December 29, 2012, 10:20:23 pm by Harrogate Rover »
I know Hume & Copps are going to be available on NYD, but would anybody change a winning side? Back five picks itself. Central midfield has been our achilles heel but I thought Keegan & Harper were immense today & Syers was my MOM.
Copps & Hume on t'bench. Same 11 for me please Dean.

Hume for Keegan for me. Let Syers drop back into midfield. Apart from that, no change, Blake, Woods, Copps all possibly being back on the bench is a big boost though, gives us a great plan B.

I think the stage is set for Copps to start on the bench due to his fitness and maybe putting him straight into the team when he has spent the last 4 months training with another team could be risky. It would be nice to have a standing ovation when he comes on rather than the 50 in the stands when the team sheet is read out pre-match.

I think I'd take one of Keegan/Harper out (probably Keegan - my own preference for the holding midfield player would be Harper) drop Syers back in alongside whichever one of the two is left and bring Hume in to play just behind Paynter so he can overlap and play off of Paynter.

Hopefully McCombe feels no after effects of a couple of games after a long(ish) layoff if he does 'd bring Martis in.

I think I'd save Copps for a sub appearance if he's cleared to play.

G. WOODS

P. QUINN
T. SPURR
R. JONES
J. McCOMBE

K. BENNETT
D. COTTERILL
J. HARPER
D. SYERS

I. HUME
B. PAYNTER

SUBS:
Maxted, Martis, Griffin, Husband, Coppinger, Keegan, Ball (Blake and M.Woods may be available for bench too - which then makes us a very decent L1 squad!)

This would be the Benaldo 11 for Tuesday -

Woods

Griffin
Jones
Mcombe
Spurr

Cotterill
Harper
Syers
Coppinger

Hume
Paynter

Failing that, and in an alternative dimension, I would pick - Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones, Jones.

There is no way Copps will walk straight into the team and neither should he. If he does it will do more harm than good imo. He's got to get his head down train hard and take his chance when he gets it.

I just really hope its not Hume for Syers. We're doing very well but now is the time to be more positive at home and make a statement. This game should see the end of the 2 holding midfielders at home now we have options. Hume in for Keegan or Harper for me with Syers dropping back to partner the chosen one of them. Not bothered which. I expect Copps to come on for Bennett with 20 or so to go to a shall we say "warm" reception :)

Agreed.

People seem to have forgotten how dreadful we were v Coventry.

We need to increase the temp 10 fold at home.

Syers for Keegan with Hume returning

Griffin for Quinn

Copps for Bennett

Play your best side and do not forget how bad we have been at home or otherwise we will get battered!

Come on guys, you should know Saunders by now. Same starting XI with Hume and Copps on the bench.

Unfortunately, I can't see him dropping either of the brothers grim, so any hopes we have of Keegan or Harper being dropped at minimal.

Might not be a game for the purist but no doubt we'll have thrills and spills and I doubt 22 players will finish the game.

The stage is set for a certain returning hero to have a big impact in this game and to cap it all, it'll be against his nemesis Kitson.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't condone thugish behaviour but if Copps raked his studs down Kiston's calf then it will be a great moment. Provided we've got the points in the bag then what better way for Copps to endear himself to the fans by doing the red haired son of a b*tch !!

It was funny, him mocking our relegation when Pompey cheated us out of the match, yet he ends up in the same f**king division the ginger haired toss pot. Go on Jonesy lad do him in.

I think he will drop Keegan or Harper. He won't drop Syers thats for sure. He's got 2 in 2 now. Lets not forget Syers was playing cm before he got injured.

I thought I read that you went to Preston?

If so I don't know how you could suggest dropping Quinn? Maybe you was concentrating to much on having some "banter" with Keegan that you missed how he played.
I am not his biggest fan but he was one of our better players on Saturday.

Yes and went to Coventry at home too.

You need to play at tempo at home

Quinn is ideal away not home

What pace got to do with it?

My feeling is Griffin is better linking up on the wing and moving the ball forward faster......

BobG

You say that, but I vividly remember the ginger bas**rd marking his first ever appearance against us with two goals in a 3-3 draw wearing a Cambridge shirt...and that was in the fourth tier! ;)

Of course by the time of the return fixture, Mr. Kitson had departed to Reading and we had acquired 'The Beast' Ade Akinfenwa, as well as top spot in the league. The rest, they say, is history.
