Sat 16th Feb - A Doncaster Non-League Day
« on February 15, 2013, 09:21:26 am by VivaRovers »
So, with no game for Rovers tomorrow I reckon its time for our support to fully back local football. So instead of sitting on the sofa fueling Sky Sports, why not go and back one of the borough's non-league teams instead.

Whilst the non-league game is for the most part thriving across the country the town's amateur sides continue to struggle. I know Askern came close to folding at the start of the season, whilst Mexborough (around since the late 1800s) have bit the dust. Similarly Rossington Main suffered another break-in at their Oxford Street ground this week, losing much of their clubhouse stock.

So, lend your support where it is most needed tomorrow and get along to one of the following matches

NCEL Premier Division
Armthorpe Welfare v Bridlington Town (3pm)

NCEL Division One
Askern Villa v Knaresborough Town (3pm)
Rossington Main v Shirebrook Town (3pm)

Central Midlands League North Division
Brodsworth MW v DFS Welbeck (2pm)
Yorkshire Main v Sherwood Colliery (2pm)

If ever days like this occur, and I'm not doing anything else, I'll go and watch Armthorpe Welfare, mainly too see Leopald.

That's the spirit Donnievic

No more than £4 in, cheap refreshments and a cheap programme.

There are 7,000 regular home fans at the Keepmoat these days, all of whom have no game to attend tomorrow. If just 1% of that crowd go to one of the games mentioned above it will be a massive boost to those clubs.

Brodsworth at home to DFS  Welbeck 2pm kick off, Brodsworth come into the game inform winning their last 4 games £3 adults under 16's free I believe don't quote me  :) tea coffee and hot chocolate range between 80p - £1. chips are £1, chip butty £1.20, chocolate bars available. also in the snack bar there will be the television showing the latest scores around the football league. everyone welcome and the support would really help the club move forward.

Helpful as ever Norfolk...

...this is a rare weekend when Rovers have no game and a large number of the local non-league sides are at home. You could always use your Sky subscription money to fund your season ticket.

Traditionally these clubs provided a lot of players for Rovers - Rossington alone provided Ken Hardwick, Brian Makepeace, Jack Teasdale and David Moss amongst others - and they offer opportunities for the town's footballers to take to the field. They're a key asset to football in the town and all are struggling to get by.

If its not for you fine, but I don't see what you achieve in trying to dissuade others from potentially giving one of the local village sides a try.

with a little support the local teams can produce football league standard players. Brodsworth had some investment in late 1990's which helped attract top local talent. an example would be Danny Schofield Doncaster born played for Brodsworth as an 18 year old then was sold to Huddersfield town where he spent 10 years.
so with a little support players like this could end up in the football league and maybe unearth someone like Charlie Austin from non league to play for the rovers. giving a little support now and again could benefit the likes of rovers in the future.

I'll be at West Allotment Celtic v Whitehaven in the Northern League 2nd Division.  I've been to a few Celtic games over the last year, a cracking afternoon for just £4!

All you people out there without your footie fix today , go along to support one of your local non-league sides , i'm sure they would all welcome your support and i'm sure you'll enjoy getting back to basics. A great value for money , for less than a tenner you can get in to the game , have a dring and something to eat and at some of these grounds still have enough to buy a programme.

C'mon you know it makes sense ... Me i'll be at Brodsworth vs DFS Welbeck in the Central Midlands League £3 to get in.

Great stuff ROVERSBELLY...

Haven given a general push earlier, I'll give a more partisan nod of encouragement for folk to go down to Rossington Main. Rosso are in need of points as relegation looms over their shoulder, whilst visitors Shirebrook are pushing for promotion. Having suffered a break-in at the clubhouse on Tuesday, the club could certainly do with a few extra folk through the gate this week too.

£4 adults, £2 Concession to get in. Hot drinks, snack, pie and pease Beer on tap in the tea-room/club house within view of the pitch, and a belter of a 44 page match programme on sale too.

Donnievic , you could take your own bread and butter , thus saving 20p on a chip butty , and a few chips left over.

I'll do that ridgewoodrover.  Another win for Celtic (1-0) today; 5 in 5 when I've been there and still only mid-table!

As you were dissuading others re experiment so we are equal!

Went to Rosso last season and hated the experience to be honest!

Good crowd figures at Armthorpe and Rossington today would suggest quite a few did take up the opportunity to go and watch local sides today, hope Brodsworth and Yorkshire Main had a few extra in as well.

I've only known Rossington to have good feedback and praise from visitors in the last two seasons so if Norfolk is the only person not to enjoy his experience at Oxford Street it would suggest that Rossington Main are doing something very right down there.

Depends what you want from a football experience ???

Quite happy to watch any level at grass roots but when exchanging a fiver and get piss wet through maybe not what I am seeking.

All about opinions and as usual Viva you seek the higher ground.... Try looking at your antics last season when the club needed your support without looking to point fingers at others!?!

Not sure how you managed to pay a fiver to get piss wet through in a ground that has four covered stands and costs £4 to get in.

Are you sure you didn't go in Rosso swimming baths by mistake?

Fair play... that's definitely a football ground and not the baths...

...you can even see one of the four covered stands (stands not sides) I mentioned in the first picture. You should've gone in there. Nice and dry and a decent view too.
