Woodsy needs to push that shot wide for the first.

A top class keeper would have, but as I've just put on the longest thread in the world, most league1 and a lot of championship keepers would struggle with that one.

The reason he had trouble with pushing it to the side was it bounced just infront off him rather then resching on the full then it would of been easier to push away but like others have said another big howler by him costs us again

Woods did well there, if he was to try and push it round the post he would risk letting it go in.

I can't believe that after watching the vid your first criticism isn't at the shite outfield play and positioning that enabled the shot. Name that player who attempts to join two others on one of theirs and leaves the shooter free - is it Lundstram? We look like a bunch of Junior Schoolboys, likewise for the second.

Anyone who thinks that Woods shouldn't do a lot better for that first goal is seriously deluded. Some seem to think outside of the top two divisions there is no talent. This is the third tier not the eighth, and a shot like that needs dealing with better. I know this doesn't make him the one and only flaw in that goal as the closing down wasn't good enough at all either, but it still needs pointing out.

Saying that the other two goals were absolute stunners and he had no chance with them.

The highlights make us look better than we were, for the first goal look further back for the blame Cotterill again failed to put a tackle in, their second goal was bad clearling on our part but the finish was top drawer! the finish on the third wasnt to shabby either, anyway lets move on ....bring on Bournmuff!

Have to agree that the 'blame' should be spread rather than making one person the scapegaot (again).  After hearing that Woods had 'spilled' again the other nite I imagined a real howler - it was hardly that and was totally exagerated by the 'Woods out' crowd.  I think that if you look to the build up the defending was terrible and although Woods may have been better to push the shot around the post, you could argue that the shot shouldn't have gone unchallenged also.  The second and third goals were defended poorly also ........ and yet the blame is not apportioned and fingers aren't being pointed....  :suicide:

re: the goals:-

1. woods fault for not push it wide or keeping the ball / mccombe fault for not reacting
2. lucky strike? (just seemed to swing a leg at it to me?)
3. good strike

why are we referred to as "overnight leaders" by Sky Sports?

That video confirms what I have thought about Woods since he first appeared for us. His biggest failing us that his reaction to long range shots is dreadful. He doesn't seem to pick up the flight of the ball, and so is late in making his move towards saving the shot.

The first goal was a routine save for a competent keeper. But he responded late. He actually got down to the ball easily enough, but in the wrong place. In his rush to dive late, he's over reached and the ball seems to have hit somewhere around his elbows, meaning he had no control over where it went.

Goals 2 and 3 would have taken very good saves to prevent them. But (whilst not blaming Wood for not reaching them) the fact is that he was nowhere near them. By the time he reacted and moved into his dive, the ball was in the back of the net. Goal 3 in particular - he didn't get within 2 yards of the ball. A decent keeper should be able to get closer to a shot from outside the box.

And then there was to early shot that he parried when it looked like a routine catch. Again, appearing not to pick up the flight and so making his decision late. And then there's the free kick that he got nowhere near.

All in all, poor efforts at FIVE long range shots. And it's not new. He has ALWAYS been vulnerable to long range shots.

Think how rarely you see us score from 20-25 yards. Because most keepers are pretty good at dealing with all but the most exceptional long range efforts. Then think how often you've seen us concede from that distance over the last 3 years when Woods has been in goal.

Agree with your comments BST. But all three goals neither midfield player closed down the shots. Lundstram not close enough for the first. Harper completed an air shot when trying to clear the second. The third Harper allowed Gleeson to go past him then dawdle in to the picture when it's to late. Very rare you see three goals from outside the area, yes the goal keepers reactions were poor, but closing down these players from our midfield players was very poor.

I agree, I have always thought that his primary failing is his reaction time.

A lot of the goals he concedes, he seems to get to where the ball went in to score the goal, just a little too late.

But in some ways isn't that a case with most goals, most shots even? You could always say "X should have closed him down or shown him outside" but then isn't that where the keeper comes in to actually save the day? And you could argue if we're keeping teams to shooting from a distance then we're doing something ok.

Warrington was virtually the complete package in 03/04 - is Woods as dominant now? I thionk he's improved but I think the questions on the long range weaknesses are valid.
