With "Ballon-d'Or" Billy joining Cotts on 10 league goals this season it may surprise you that this seemingly modest achievement represents only the second time in nearly 25 years that we have had two players reaching double figures in league matches in a season

The last time was in our all conquering 2003-4 season when no fewer than four players reached this milestone: Greg Blundell (18), Leo Fortune-West (11), Chris Brown (10) and Michael McIndoe (10)

Before that we have to go back to David Jones (12) and Lee Turnbull (10) in 1989-90

This rarity for Rovers to have two or more players each scoring 10 or more league goals in the same season is very much a recent phenomenon in that it occurred in no fewer than 40 of our first 63 league seasons. We are now at only 42 out of 86 (including conference years).

Maybe we work in fours these days and two more will make it this year - Jones? Brown? Hume?

I thought Heff 'n' Hayter got 10 each, although I'd never cross swords with your knowledge

Think they did including all competitions. This is just league goals though.

I bloody love these stats threads though.

Hayts never scored 10 league goals in a season with us, and Heffs managed it only once (2006-7 when he had 11 league in 21 in all competitions)

Heffs is the club's all-time record scorer in cup competitions with no fewer than 18 of his 54 goals outside of the league.

It is the league only restriction which plays very heavily here Cussie, and makes for a very unexpected stat (IMHO)

Edit (for MM): Not even in all competitions did Heff & Hayts score 10 each - the nearest was 2007-8 when Hayts had 11 (7 league) and Heffs 9 (7 league)

I remember noting how few goals our highest scorers had in our promotion season due to how surprisingly low it seemed - I think Hayter, Heffernan and Price all got around 8-9 but obviously we were spreading the goals out well through the team.

Now that does surprise me. This is definitely a stat I'll be bringing up constantly in the pub!

I do think we have a good chance of equalling the 03/04 team's record of 4 players in double figures though. Brown could get it if he gets fit before the end of the season, and also Jones and Hume have a decent shout of getting it too. I believe Syers is on 5, with his tendency to score goals in bursts he could just manage it too.

E: Actually thinking about it, Syers and Jones have some goals in the cup, so in terms of league goals they're still further away than I thought.

Whoops sorry Frosty - I missed that. I knew 11 was Heffs max in the league in a season, but I had forgotten his 10 in our first Championship season. BillyStubbsTears will never ever ever forgive me................ :chair:

An even more remarkable stat when Sean refused to play him behind the free scoring front line of Guy, Price and Taylor.

I've spent the afternoon crafting a particularly barbed response Dutch. But you are clearly penitent, so I'll let you off. Don't do it again, mind!
