VSC Programme Notes: Carlisle
« on April 09, 2013, 11:21:40 pm by NathanDRFC »
A warm welcome to the fans of Carlisle United

Earlier this season as part of our Community objectives the Viking Supporters Co-operative purchased a couple of multi-tickets from Doncaster Rovers to give people in the Doncaster Community a chance to watch our football club; aimed specifically at charitable causes or individuals who otherwise would not be able to watch a game of Football.
Last year in 2012 the club welcomed Lewis Jeynes (a young boy who suffers from an undiagnosed neurologically degenerative condition) and his family to watch the Coventry City game and although we didn’t manage to get a win that day. We are aware that Lewis enjoyed it and his family was very grateful to the VSC. The VSC has now turned to Bluebell Wood, the chosen charity of Doncaster Rovers and we have offered them a 20 game multi ticket so that the families at Bluebell Wood are presented the chance to watch a Doncaster Rovers match this season and hopefully help the families to relax and enjoy themselves.

We are essentially a Community Trust and it is important we are seen as this, rather than just as an extension of the Football Club. If you can think of anyone who might benefit from a great day out at the Rovers, or have any other ideas on how the VSC can increase our presence in the Community, then please feel free to email  dave.burkitt@drfc-vsc.co.uk with your suggestions.

The VSC has been busy as always in the winter months and we are delighted to announce that we have sponsored Jordan Ball for the remainder of the season. All fans have been impressed with Ball in what little we have seen of him on the pitch since making the step up from the Youth Team to score with his first touch in a senior game when he nodded the winner against Chesterfield earlier this season.

This sponsorship comes as part as our Tomorrow's Rovers campaign which saw us donate £5,000 to the Youth Set up and sponsor two of the youth academy teams. It is a vision of the VSC for Doncaster Rovers to produce young footballers with potential for quality and maybe one day in the future we can see a Doncaster Rovers team full of young Doncaster blood. If you would like to donate to the Tomorrow's Rovers fund, or find out more information please visit www.drfc-vsc.co.uk

The Trust has also supported and assisted Doncaster Rovers Sports Foundation with the creation of an Under 19 league that will commence next season. This will plug the gap between the current junior league and open age football.

The Trust is donating the remaining "Comrade Ryan" t-shirts to Africa. If you have any old shirts you would like to donate to Africa please contact Nathan Batchelor at chairman@drfc-vsc.co.uk

This season has saw the VSC being very active in working very hard to ensure your views are being represented and what we have achieved so far is phenomenal, through the "In Rovers We Trust" project we have made many things possible including the extra buses on Match-days, the renaming of the Lakeside suite to the Belle Vue Bar, the new smoking bubble initiative, pay on the gate trials at cup matches and assisted with the club to help improve the Pre-Match atmosphere. We have also donated matchday tickets to various charitable causes, such as Bluebell Wood and the Lewis Jeynes fund and without you - our members - none of this would be possible. So please pat yourself on the back and be proud of what we have achieved at this club, nay, our club!

If you aren't a member of the VSC yet, why not? It has never been easier to join the VSC and your subscription costs just £1.00 per month. Too many football supporters around the country leave it until the club is in major financial meltdown before joining their Trust/Co-operative, by joining now not only are you helping us achieve more but you also helping to keep our football club a sustainable, accountable, community football club. So please do join at www.drfc-vsc.co.uk and click on "Join the VSC" at the top of the webpage.
