Brian Flynn what happens next?
« on April 28, 2013, 12:27:49 am by Sammy Chung was King »
Brian Flynn for me deserves massive respect for what he has achieved, admittedly with mostly another managers team, though it hasn't been a seamless transition,he has kept the team spirit and togetherness that got us near the top in the first place.
For me the few signings he has made have been pretty shrewd,we wouldn't have got promoted with the midfield he inherited,we would have run out of steam possibly in early january without Furman and Lundstram.
It's a common fallacy among supporters that the manager has to be big, imposing, and a bit of a loud mouth,Brian underneath that Rough Exterior, lies a very shrewd brain,he's got massive contacts in the game and is well respected, and he does the job in a quiet understated way,i think it would be complete madness to lose the ability this bloke has got, please don't insult him and make him reserve team manager,if not manager, then at least give him the Director of Football role that Dario Gradi has at Crewe, very similar managers for me,i'm quite confident John Ryan will make the right decision, for me Brian got us promoted, let him have the job if he wants it CHAMPIONS What a Great Word!! :rtid:

I would agree with your sentiment about giving him a job upstairs but not sold on the idea of giving him the job full time. Lets hope JR makes a good decision again.

Massive decision for Ryan, Flynn was a stopgap to continue the good work put in by Saunders, will he be as successful building his own team his own way?

Lundstram and Furman... looking good to me.

Thinking mentality more than personnel. Flynn had a lot to do with the Saunders signings too apparently.

So difficult to say. Being a harsh motivator isn't necessarily best, and neither is being young bright and sharp. He has lost of experience, tends to get it right, isn't afraid to change things. He seems to find the middle way. I'd stick with him, though who knows who else is in the frame?

Difficult not to give him a new contract now, he has earned the right to have it.

The board meeting tomorrow to discuss the options will give us an indication of what direction we will be going in.

My opinion is that no quick decision will be made.

Not only is Flynny the size of a leprechaun but he has the luck of a leprechaun. If, like Napoleon, you want your Generals to be lucky then he should definitely be in the running.

Flynn has got to be kept at the club even if its in a Director of Football, and work with an up and coming young manager i.e. Justin Edinburgh.

We still need continuity...Flynn brings that
We still need a postive guy....Flynn brings that
We need experience...Flynn in abundance
We need someone to rally the troops....Bouncebackability Flynn has proved that
We need someone that isn't scared to make a change....Flynn 2 calls of Billy :)
We need someone that will bring on youth...husband, lundstram
We need someone that knows a good signing when he sees one: Furman
We need someone that loves Donny...2 spells as player...scout...manager
We need someone that is lucky....need I say more.

The more I think about this the more uncertain I am about Flynn being first team manager. I dearly hope he stays on in some meaningful capacity but looking forward, we are on the cusp of something really big and I think it will need someone of experience to take us forward. I haven't a clue who that might be though.

If we can keep the spirit, the resolve, the mental toughness and blend more good footballers in to that mix who can stand up to the plate, we'll be better prepared for the Championship than before. Any player who comes, before he signs will have to look Rob Jones in the eye, and if he flinches, shows any weakness or hesitation in wanting to be up for a fight then he's not for us.

More than before, I think we'll be prepared off the pitch and I hope the bigger numbers that will surely turn up next season, plus the additional TV money etc., will give the board some confidence in investing in the right quality of player.

Things could really kick off next season!

For me it isn't a big name manager we need, apart from Saunders we tend mostly to promote from within,it works for us so why change it?,the manager needs massive experience, because changes will happen with the squad, though i hope not too many otherwise the spirit we have might be lost, and our manager will need to make the right signings, because our budget won't be massive,so a shrewd bloke is needed,i like Brian's understated way he does things,he's the right one for me.

We've got a good back room staff set-up,Brian is well renowned for spotting a player, just what we need, why change things,if a new manager comes in,the back room staff will change and probably the way we do things,it worries me that Warnock hasn't got a club,i really don't want to see him as our manager whining about lack of funds and referees every week,Brian doesn't do that,we need to carry on what we've done in the past, picking good players up for small money, and from now on when we sell get a good fee for them,a player i'd love to see Alan Judge, and like someone else said Matt Green from Mansfield,Scott Flinders another one mentioned a good solid keeper who has impressed me despite letting loads in for Hartlepool,Chris Lewington the Dagenham keeper is another one,Jimmy Ryan and Mark Duffy from Scunny two good players as well.

It's alright saying give him a job upstairs, but who's to say he'd accept that.
If I was him I wouldn't accept being pushed upstairs after just winning the title.

I would like him to be DOF! But I would give him another crack at the whip next season to build his own team and get them playing how he wants, he's succeeded in playing the Saunders way but lets see what the Flynn way is. We maybe surprised.

How did that work out for him?
