Actually, I rather like the close season- a chance to watch some cricket and build up the anticipation levels for the new season- and this time we really have something to look forward to.

Don't forget it is an Ashes summer- although by the time it gets going football will be upon us again.

Jim- agreed! The ECB's inability to plan a cricket season in a way that will maximise interest and therefore income never fails to amaze me. I'd love to go back to the days when the Lord's Test (always the second one of the summer) fell around the time of my birthday in late June.

To give another example- they market T20 to try and bring in football fans during the close season, then play the Finals Day when the footy season is already in full swing!

And don't get me started on the fact that they managed to overlook the ground with the 2nd biggest capacity in England for an Ashes test this time around. Grrrrr...!

After visiting the city that it looks like you stay in, I would say take your healthiest credit card and go out on the town, then take a Skateboard to the top of Holmenkollen and try to emulate Eddie the Eagle.
