Pleased for Newport, but sympathy for Wrexham. They'll be wondering what they need to do to get into the FL.

I remember going to Newport for a Tuesday evening match in the days of Brian Usher, left work at lunchtime and our regular driver Arthur was driving, it was when they played in the middle of a speedway track and I think we came away with a 1-1 draw thanks to Keith Weller goal

Went to Somerton two or three times in the seventies and eighties but they're obviously at a new ground now. Look forward to visiting at some point soon to redo my 92.

Went there first game of the season in the mid 80's. Got in five minutes late and missed the quickest goal of the new season. I think it was Micky Nesbitt?

From the Daily Mail:

The story of Newport County provided Wembley with some romance yesterday — and the venue was in need of it.

Only 16,000 were there for the biggest game Newport have played for 25 years and Wrexham for six years — due in part to a game between clubs from North and South Wales being staged in London.

Added to that was that the cheapest adult ticket to watch a non-League match was £36.

The obsession with Wembley is surely unsustainable.

This game could have been played at Villa Park or Molineux and the cost would not have been £36 for the cheapest seat, although as one Wrexham fan who bought two adult tickets explained, the cost was not 2 x £36 = £72.

There was a £6.50 postage fee on top, a £3 ‘handling fee’ per ticket and a £3 ‘cancellation insurance’ charge. Total £87.50.

The club coach from North Wales cost £35 and Wrexham were here five weeks ago for the FA Trophy final.

The Football Supporters’ Federation have a campaign called ‘Twenty’s Plenty’.

To many games now at the new Wembley (I suppose they still have to pay for it). Fa cup semi-finals is wrong. It used to be every player and fans wish to get to the Old Wembley. The new venue just doesn't seem the same. I preferred Millennium Stadium to Wembley. Both the Rovers games and I go to the final of the challenge cup every year. Millennium stadium is much better.

I agree with you that FA Cup Semis should not be played at Wembley as this devalues the final. As for other matches, the problem is how the tickets are priced. A £36 minimum price is ridiculous for a game between two non-League sides.

The information for the L2 play-off final is out now. There is a greater spread of prices, though I suspect the £26 tickets will give a pretty poor view of the game. The interesting thing is that they are only sold via Ticketmaster and you can't go down to your club's ground and purchase a ticket. That will account for the booking fees and other "add-ons" which are mentioned in the DM article.

Looks like that last-ditch action at Brentford saved all of us a lot of money!

I wonder if it`s the clubs choice to use a third party agent, Northampton are using ticketmaster and Bradford are using ticketzone, if it were a FL thing I would have thought they`d both use the same agent

Exiled in Wales, my second team is Newport County and I was at the game. It was a great day out but surely Britannia or the Ricoh are more sensible venues.  The Daily Mail article above says it all really. Conference prices are in the £15-£20 range with most at the lower end. County took 13,000 to the FA trophy final last season when tickets were more reasonably priced.
