Reading FC
« on June 23, 2013, 02:23:39 pm by Copps is Magic »
If there is one club I seriously fear could give us a tonking next season it's Reading.

Already signed Wayne Bridge and some lad who used to play for the Real Madrid. Apart from that they already have a squad which is good enough to win the championship (maybe a little weak defensively).

Early favourites for promotion/title for me.

How do we compete with clubs like this who have had parachute payments and premiership money a few times now !?

We don't. We cut our cloth accordingly.

Of course, spending big isn't always a guarantee of success. Leicester are a prime example.

Reading will win the title IMO they had a quality squad in the first place but signing Bridge and Drenthe on free transfers is cracking business.

We ALWAYS lose to Reading! Doesn't matter how much money they or we have.

Last ten times we have played them: Reading won 8, draws 2, Rovers won 0.

We last beat them in September 1984.

We can't compete with them full stop.
I was at that 7-5 game and I think both Ian Snodin and Kerry Dixon both got hat tricks before half time??
Score in the next home game after this one? 6-4 to Rovers! Can't remember who against!

The run of league games was -

Sept 10 1982 Rovers 6 Exeter 1
Sept 18 Southend 2 Rovers 3
Sept 25 Rovers 7 Reading 5
Sept 28 Rovers 3 Wigan 6
Oct 2 Orient 1 Rovers 0
Oct 9 Lincoln 5 Rovers 1
Oct 16 Rovers 4 Brentford 4

After the Reading game Rovers swapped Daryl Pugh for Huddersfield's Terry Austin in a deal that must go down as one of the worst Rovers have ever done.

3-6 lost to Wigan and the following home game after that was a 4-4 draw against Brentford

This. Drenthe was highly rated a few years ago and will probably be a very good signing for Reading but he is not 'top 10 Prem quality' at all.

Exactly my point was at Everton for a year. Played 21 times scoring 3 times.. Then last season played 6 games all season!

You think right.

I was at the 7-5. Nice Sunny September afternoon. Three days later when we got stuffed 6-3 by Wigan it was a miserable Tuesday night.

I think the way you compete is by being organised and a lot of hard graft. We can't afford to compete financially but we can compete on the other two attributes I have mentioned.
