Half-Time - West Stand - Ice Bar
« on August 31, 2013, 05:02:56 pm by jonnydog »
5 minutes to pour me ONE pint of Boddingtons... f**k off!!

Then to say sorry for the wait, then persist in spilling some of it all over the bar and my hand is NOT my idea of quick/good service.

... The game was w**k too ;)

I had to ask for a pint that was full twice before I was handed what I understand to be a full pint. I suggested that at the next home game when the clock strikes 40 mins pour out for example 100 pints and save themselves some complaints, I went on to explain that I understood that was rocket science and they might not understand it. As for blaming the kids behind the bar, I was served by a woman who was easily 40 and she had less urgency than Akinfenwa! After 5 mins of HT there was no queue at all at the ice bar at the south end of the west stand, people were just refusing to use the service, money lost.

My lad used to work behind a bar at Stadium of LIght.  Dozens of pints were poured before half-time as that was the only way they were able to cope with the rush.  It seems like commonsense to me.

I had a pint from this bar before the match.  They had pulled several drinks that were waiting to be bought.  If they can do it then, why not for half time.

I had Boddingtons, and despite what was said on here about cleaning fluid etc, it was ok.

I also had a pie from the stall next door.  Actually, this was very good (for a football pie) compared to previous seasons.  However, I asked for the "beef and beer" pie as it was listed on the menu, and the lad serving had no idea what I meant, until his colleague told him that meant "steak".  Knowing what is on the menu isn't difficult is it?

That aside, the pie was great.  Tasted good, pastry properly cooked with no soggy bottom, and decent filling.

I went down to the East stand bar 5 minutes before halftime, there was already a queue. When I managed to get served I ordered a coffee and a pint, the lady serving then turned to a lad and asked him to pour a pint. Then she poured the coffee. I couldn't believe the lad was pouring pints to order. I said if I were you I should get a load of them poured and ready because in a couple of minutes there'll be a lot of people wanting to get served quickly. They just looked at me gone out.

When i saw this about the 'Ice Bar' Eddie The Eagle Edwards popped into my mind, can you imagine the problems that it would cause him being in charge of serving the bar,he'd have to be the worst if he was competing

On a more serious note, the queue for the food outlet beside the ice bar in the west stand at half time was only about 8-10 deep.  OK the attendance was low but even so, that shows that folks were reluctant to use the facilities.

Did anybody notice the extra drinks outlets though? The BVB had some and so did the East Stand, all designed to cope with the demand, were getting there.

Not normally one to complain but this is the second time I have had to raise this, others have too.

The Becks beer in the south stand is 50% washing up liquid, bloody awful, I have started buying the more expensive Budweiser which is better, but yesterday the bud was off so I tried a Becks......disgusting!!!! I and the others I was with took our money back.

This has been going on all last season and now so far this season, it can't be the beer because the brand has changed but yet still full of cleaning fluid.

Enough is enough I and the others with me will now be drinking elsewhere before the game, I tried to report it to an SLO but at that time none were there not that anything would happen, even one of the girls behind the bar tried to warn me it tasted of cleaning fluid.

Totally spoilt my day yesterday, football with no beer  :headbang:

Why is nothing being done about it when many have complained about it?

I did notice that SM. I wasn't bothered about a Guiness and I also wanted to order a hot drink so I queued for the regular bar.

Perhaps the queues weren't quite as long as usual because of it but I still think it doesn't take much imagination to have a few pints poured and ready to speed things up.

West stand south side bar. A number round me were asking for a top up, the lass said they were measured pints so if that is the case there is summat up, weights and measures and all that. Legally anyone can ask for a pint to be topped up. I have had thee same argument in a working mens club, as they used the measured pint excuse. I am actually enjoying the bottled cider now on offer, so i can't really complain.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before and I don't know how much it would cost, but what about installing those machines that pull multiple pints ready for them to be sold? I saw one of those at an away ground somewhere a few years ago and thought it was a good idea, especially for football grounds where you have masses of fans queueing for drinks. If this is too expensive or can't be done for any other reason, then fair do's.
