Charity walk to Oakwell... Again
« on October 18, 2013, 10:21:55 pm by Mustapha-Dump »
Evening ladies and gents, I posted a few months ago about me and my dad doing a charity walk on the 9th of November from the Keepmoat to Oakwell, and most of the responses were along the lines of 'post again nearer the time' so here goes. We are doing the walk in memory of my granddad, my dads dad, Tony, who was an avid Barnsley fan, but we all have our crosses to bear eh. My granddad passed away (somewhat coincidentally) on the 3rd of January 2012, the day after we beat Barnsley at home in our relegation season, enough must of been enough. My granddad had a soft spot for rovers, he saw us win at wembley, he was at conference cup final in 99 and he even said he didn't mind us beating Barnsley if it meant us staying up, unfortunately it didn't help. In the later stages of his life he received lots of help from Weston Park hospital in sheffield, and we as a family fealt that they not only helped him to live more comfortably but they also helped him to live longer. So long story short, me and my dad came up with the idea of walking to Barnsley to raise money for Weston Park, the route we have planned out comes to just over 17 miles and we hope to complete it and raise some good money in the process.

Anybody and everybody is more than welcome to join us, we are meeting at the Keepmoat, at the west stand reception at half past 7, and will be leaving no later than 8 am. If anybody would like to help out but isn't up to the walk thats fine, we are looking for people to help us with water points and possibly lifts home from the game depending on the amount of people who decide to join us.

Lastly, if anybody could kindly sponsor us it would be greatly appreciated, any amount at all, £1, £2, £10,£20, anything at all would be great, and if anybody could share our page that would be great too. You can sponsor us at:

Thank you to anyone who has taken time to read this.

You might be carrying me half way through mind.

Although I did join a Pompey fan who walked to all 92 grounds last season, but I only joined him for 1 day of his journey (Thorne to KMS).

Hi mate
Commented on your first thread a couple of months ago re. my father-in-law suffering from cancer and us all spending a lot of time at Weston Park. He's a Barnsley season ticket holder and somehow managed to convince my nephew to become a Barnsley fan as well. Not happy about this as he lives in Conisborough and did start watching the Rovers before clearly being bribed by our six fingered friends.
Anyhow, me, my wife and a friend will be joining you along with my nephew and his mate. I take no responsibility for the two kids (15 year olds), so if they start getting lippy en route it's not a problem if they mysteriously disappear.

Just let your Dad know the meeting time and route. I work with him so we'll sort it next week.
