This reminded me of something i read once,is it true that they used to commentate, and they had letters for each part of the pitch,so the supporter would know from the radio commentary where on the pitch they were?

Bob. Young Stevens fitted right in. In fact, he looked like a proper Red Enda.

Which is not unlike some other full backs we've had over the years.

One thing about today that I've not seen anyone mention: Was Theo trying to score when he got the equaliser? It looked like a jammy cross to me. Not that I'm complaining, mind.

Cracking book that Billy.

And Sammy. Yes. They did try that when radio outside broadcasts were in their very early days.

It was the texbook place to put in a ball. You curl it in that way aiming for the back stick. Keeper can't come and claim it - too far out. And if your strikers are sniffing, the keeper has to account for the possibility that someone will touch it goalward. So he has to balance himself to spring either way. Which makes it bloody hard to throw himself full length when no-one does touch it and it's going in at the back post.

Excellent ball by Robinson. It's a percentage ball and if it goes in, who cares if it's not a "proper" shot.

Almost correct chaps, it was numbers not letters they used. Apparently it is where the phrase 'back to square one' began, a theory which has been challenged as the divisions they used were not square.

Super team performance yesterday.  Not quite the best as there were plenty of times I thought we could have competed better for the second ball etc.  However the defence was outstanding - young McCullough was very assured and Stevens did very well on his debut.  Great battle between Wellens and Barton, Duffy looked a threat etc.  Robinson worked hard for a change especially second half, and Macheda was a presence without doiung anything spectacular.

Apologies to the other players not mentioned.  One thing I liked was we never gave up.  I really liked the commitment and effort, even if our quality wasn't the best it can be.

For QPR I thought Assuo-Ekoto (spelling?) was the best player by far - why he isn't in the premier league is beyond me...

Yep. Enda Stevens looks like a proper full back. Quinny best game so far and growing in confidence. Furman and Wellens complimented each other. The back 7 gave us a platform and we stayed patient and that's what higher level football is all about. Some quality in and around the box and we're cooking!

Sounds like the sort of goal Cotterill was scoring regularly last season

Just watched the entire 2nd half on Player again and it's better second time around. That's one of the most complete performances I've seen from us from a long time. Every player was on it. The passing was sharper the tackling and interceptions were spot on. The discipline and the tactics were also spot on.

Wellens stepped up and level and the whole team followed. Back it up now at Birmingham!!
